It was snowing. When the children woke up that morning they found that it had been snowing all night.A thick blanket of crisp white snow covered the rooftops and walls, and lay all over the gorund. ' Everything looks so smooth,' said Chip. 'The snow covers up all the sharp edges of things.'
Of course Kipper wanted to rush out straight away to play in the snow, but Mum and Dad made them have a good breakfast.
At last, Mum said they could go outside. ' Make sure you wrap up warmly ,' she said. 'And try not to get snow inside your boots or down your neck becuse if you do you'll feel wet and miserable.'
Mum tied a big warm scarf round Kipper's neck. 'Right ,off you go,' she said. ' And have fun.'
'Hooray,' said the children.

For a little while the children played in the snow. They threw snowballs. They felt it with their tongues to see what it tasted like. Kipper rolled in a thick pile of it by the gate and got a lot of snow in his boots.
As for Floppy - he loved the snow, even though it was rather cold for his paws.
Then they saw Wilf and Wilma. Wilf was sweeping the snow. His dad had told him that he had to clear the path in front of the house before he could play.

'Can't you sweep the path later?' asked Biff. ' We want you to come round to our house and help us find the toboggan.'
'We'd better not,' said Wilma.'Not until we've cleared the snow,or Dad will be cross.'
Biff had a good idea. ' I know a way to clear snow really quickly,' she said. ' I saw it in a comic.' She made a giant snowball. She did this by rolling a small snowball in the snow.
As she rolled it, it grew bigger and bigger, until it picked up all the snow leaving a clean path behind it.
'That's brilliant!' said Wilf. ' We can clear up the snow in no time that way.'

' I think I know what Wilf wants to do,' said Biff. 'Come on, let's help. It's going to be a brilliant trick to play.'

Wilf's dad opened the door as soon as he heard someone knock on it. You can guess what a shock he had when he saw a snowman. It had funny black eyes and a strange pointed nose made out of a carrot.
The children were watching from the corner of the house. As soon as Wilf saw his dad open the door he pretended to be the snowman talking, and he called out(in his best snowman's voice), 'I've cleared all the front paths for you, Mister.'
Once Wilma's dad had got over the shock, he laughed and laughed, and so did all the others.

Wilf and Wilma's mum came to see what all the laughter was about. When she saw the giant snowman she laughed too. 'I think you children deserve a nice cup of hot chocolate and some biscuits after that,' she said. ' But first I think I should take a photograph of you all standing next to the snowman.'
The children helped Wilma's dad turn the snowman round while Wilma's mum went to get her camera. Wilma's mum took a photograph.
' This would be make a lovely Christmas card,' she said.
And just as she said that, the snow fell off the roof.

The snow fell with a gentle whoosh and landed on top of the children. The children were covered in snow for a few seconds before they shook it all off. Then they spluttered and spluttered and they couldn't stop laughing.
