Cover/ Introduction
Have you ever been to the seaside? Did you go for the day or did you go for a holiday?
Maybe you stayed in a hotel or a guest-house. Maybe you stayed in a holiday camp.Maybe you were in a caravan or a tent.Did you enjoy your holiday?
This story is all about the time when Biff, Chip and Kipper went to holiday. They went to a place called Sand Bay. It was where their Mum went for a holiday once when she was a child. ' It was a really nice holiday,' said Mum. ' I want my family to go there too.'
So that year Mum arranged for them to go to Samd Bay. She booked them in to stay in a hotel quite near the beach... But the holiday wasn't quite like Mum thought it would be!
바닷가에 가본적 있나요? 하루동안 갔었나요 아니면 휴일에 몇일동안 갔었나요?
아마 호텔이나 손님집(여관?)에서 묵었겠지요.
아니면 캠프에서 지냈을수도 있겠네요.
아니면 카라반이나 텐트를 치고 지냈겠지요.
방학을 잘 보냈나요?
이 이야기는 Biff와 Chip과 Kipper이 갔던 방학여행에 대한 이야기에요.
Kipper네 가족은 Sand Bay라는 곳에 갔습니다.
그곳은 엄마가 어릴적에 방학여행을 갔던 곳이에요.
'아주 좋은 여행장소였지’, 엄마가 말했습니다. ‘나의 가족과 함께 가면 좋을 것 같아’.
그래서 이번해에는 엄마가 가족과 함께 Sand Bay에 가도록 계획을 짰어요.
호텔방은 바닷가에서 가까운 곳으로 잡았어요. … 그런데, 방학 여행은 엄마가 생각했던 것과는 너무 달랐습니다!!

The family went on holiday. This year they went to Sand Bay. ' It's lovely here,' said Mum.
'We're going to have such fun. ' Look at all that sand,' said Chip. 'Wouldn't Floppy have loved it.'
They hadn't been able to bring Floppy . None of the hotels wanted people to bring dogs. In the end, Wilf and Wilma's mum and dad said they would look after Floppy. In return, Dad thought it would be a good idea for them to take Wilf and Wilma to Sand Bay. So that's why Wilf and Wilma went , too.
가족은 방학여행을 갔습니다. 이번해에는 Sand Bay로 갔어요. ‘여기는 너무 아름답구나,’ 라고 엄마가 말했어요.
‘우리는 여기서 너무 재밌을거에요’.
‘엄마, 모래 좀 보세요.’ Chip이 말했어요. ‘Floppy도 너무 좋아했을텐데.’
가족은 Floppy를 데리고 올 수 없었어요. 어느 호텔에서도 강아지가 딸린 손님을 원하지 않았거든요. 결국에는 Wilf와 Wilma네 엄마 아빠가 Floppy를 돌봐 주기로 했어요.
그 대신 Wilf와 Wilma가 Kipper가족의 여행에 같이 가기로 했답니다.

When they got to the hotel, something terrible had happened.The hotel had burned down. ' I can't believe it , ' said Dad. ' I wonder when this happened.'
They saw a man looking at the ruins of the hotel. 'It burned down last night,' said the man. ' Nobody was hurt, thank goodness,but there's nothing left. Everything was burned to a cinder. You will have to find somewhere else to stay. The trouble is , most of the other hotels are full at this time of the year. I'm afraid you will have a job to find anywhere to stay. Sorry! said the man.
' Oh no!' everyone said.
호텔에 도착했을 때, 아주 끔찍한 일이 벌어져 있었어요. 호텔은 타서 무너져 버린 것입니다. ‘믿을 수가 없군,’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘언제 이런일이 있었지?’
Kipper가족은 무너진 호텔을 바라보는 다른 남자를 찾았어요. ‘어제밤에 무너져 내렸어요.’ 그 남자는 말했습니다.
‘다행히 아무도 다치진 않았지만, 남은게 아무것도 없군요. 다 재가 되버렸어요. 당신가족은 아마 다른 곳을 찾아봐야 할거에요. 문제는 지금은 성수기라서 다른 호텔도 다 찼을텐데, 묵을 곳을 찾는데 좀 힘이 드시겠네요. 안됐군요!’
그 남자가 말했습니다.
‘어쩌면 좋아!’ 다들 말했습니다.

They got back in the car and drove around the town. ' Look out for hotels,' said Mum.
There were some very big hotels in the centre of Sand Bay.
Mum stopped the car and they looked at a new hotel. It was very big and grand.The children looked in through the huge glass doors. ' It's got an entrance hall as big as our school playground, ' said Chip. ' I do hope we can stay here.'
'Sorry . Too expensive,' said Mum. ' I'm afraid we could never afford to stay in a hotel like that, not even for one night.'
모두 다시 차로 돌아와서 마을을 돌아보았습니다. ‘호텔을 한번 찾아봐요,’ 엄마가 말했습니다.
Sand Bay의 중심지에는 큰 호텔이 몇 군데 있었습니다. 엄마는 차를 세우고 처음 보는 이 거대한 호텔을 구경했습니다. 아주 크고 화려했습니다. 아이들은 커다란 유리문을 보았습니다. ‘입구가 우리 학교 운동장만하다,’ Chip 이 말했습니다. ‘여기서 머물 수 있으면 좋겠다.’
‘아이들아 미안하구나, 여긴 너무 비싸단다,’ 엄마가 말했습니다. ‘우리는 이런 호텔에 하루밤도 묵을 수 없겠구나.’

'We'll just have to find somewhere that doesn't cost so much,'said Mum. ' Come on.'
So they got back in the car and looked for some smaller hotels. They looked at an old hotel in a quiet street. It was called the Grand Hotel,but it didn't look very grand.
'Yuk,' said Biff. ' We're not going to stay there are we?
'No, thank you,' said Dad.
‘돈이 좀 적게 드는 곳을 찾을 수 밖에는 없겠다,’ 엄마가 말했습니다. ‘가자꾸나.’
그래서 차로 돌아와 조금 더 작은 호텔을 찾아다녔습니다. 조용한 길목에 있는 낡은 호텔을 찾았습니다. 호텔의 이름은 ‘웅장한 호텔’ 이었지만, 전혀 웅장해 보이지 않았습니다.
‘싫어!’ Biff가 말했습니다. ‘우리 설마 여기에 묵을 것은 아니겠죠?’
‘나도 싫구나,’ 아빠가 말했습니다.

'I do wish we could find somewhere to stay,' said Chip. ' I 'm getting fed up. We've been sitting in the car for ages. We wanted to go to the beach and we can't because we can't find anywhere to stay.'
'Try not go grumble,' said Dad. ' We all feel fed up, but I'm sure we'll find somewhere to stay soon. Look, there are lots of places in this street.'
Mum stopped the car and she and Dad went along the street asking at all the hotels.Evey hotel was full. 'Sorry!' said everyone.
‘우리가 머물 수 있는 곳을 찾기라도 했으면 좋겠어요,’ Chip이 말했습니다. ‘이제 피곤해지고 있어요. 차안에서만 끝도 없이 앉아 있었잖아요. 바닷가에도 가고 싶었는데, 머무를 곳을 찾지 못한 바람에 못갔잖아요.’
‘투덜대지 않으려고 노력해보렴,’ 아빠가 말했습니다. ‘우리 모두 피곤하지만 아마 곧 머물 수 있는 곳을 찾을거야. 저기 보렴, 길가에 호텔이 많잖니.’
엄마는 차를 세우고, 길가에 있는 호텔을 다 들어가 보았지만 전부다 방이 없었어요. 호텔 카운터 사람들이 모두, ‘미안합니다.’라고 했어요.

They went to nearly all the hotels in Sand Bay but there just wasn't anywhere to stay.
'If we can't find somewhere, we'll just have to go home,' said Mum.
It was becoming quite late in the afternoon and everyone was tired. They even tried the camp site but it was full and there were no tents for hire. In the end they had to go home.
They had only gone a little way when the car broke down.
'Now what shall we do? ' said Dad.
'I'm hungry,' said Kipper.
Sand Bay에 있는 거의 모든 호텔을 다 들어가 보았지만, 묵을 곳은 없었습니다.
‘만약 우리가 잘 곳을 찾지 못한다면, 집에 돌아가는 수 밖에 없겠구나,’ 엄마가 말했어요.
벌써 오후가 되어가고 가족 모두 피곤했어요. 캠프장도 시도해 보았지만, 캠프장도 꽉 차고 텐트도 빌릴 수 없었어요. 그래서 결국에는 집에 갈 수 밖에 없었습니다.
집으로 출발한지 얼마 안되서 차가 멈춰버렸어요.
‘이제는 어떻게 해야 하지?’ 아빠가 말했어요.
‘배고파요,’ Kipper이 말했습니다.

Just then a farmaer stopped his tractor.'Can I help? ' he said.
Mum told him about all the trouble they were in. How the hotel had burned down and there was nowhere for them to stay in Sand Bay - especially with five children.
'Well, don't you worry,' said the farmer. ' I've got somewhere you can stay. It's not exactly a hotel but when you've got five children to find beds for , this might be the very thing!'
바로 그 때 지나가던 어느 농부 아저씨가 경운기를 세우고, ‘내가 도와줄까요?’라고 했습니다.
엄마는 가족이 어떤 일을 겪었는지 알려주었어요. 호텔이 불에 타버렸고 Sand Bay에는 더 머무를 곳이 없었다고요(특히 아이들 5명이 있어서 더욱).
‘걱정 마세요, 당신들이 아이들 5명을 데리고 있을 만한 곳이 있어요. 호텔은 아니지만, 딱 맞는 곳일 거에요,’ 농부가 말했습니다.

The farmer hitched the broken-down car to his tractor and Mum and Dad and the children followed him up a little lane and into a field.And there in the corner of the field the farmer had a bus.Well, it wasn't quite a bus any more. It had made into a little holiday home. It had a little kitchen and bathroom and quite a big living room downstairs. Upstairs it had three bedrooms.
'It's wonderful!' said the children. 'It's much better than a hotel. We can have such fun here.'
The farmer smiled. 'Well then , you can stay here,' he said.
'Hooray!' called the children.
농부는 멈춰버린 차를 경운기에 밧줄로 매고 엄마와 아빠와 아이들은 농부 아저씨를 따라서 밭 근처에 작은 길로 따라 갔어요. 그 구석에는 큰 버스가 서 있었어요.
이제는 그것은 버스가 아니었습니다. 작은 별장이 되었어요. 그 안에는 작은 부엌과 화장실이 있었고 꽤 넓은 거실이 아래층에 있었어요. 위층에는 침실이 3개나 있었어요.
‘너무 좋아요!’ 아이들이 감탄했습니다. ‘호텔보다 훨씬 좋아요. 여기서 정말 재밌을 거에요.’
농부는 뿌듯했습니다. ‘그럼 여기서 계시도록 하세요.’
‘만세!’ 아이들이 외쳤습니다.

The family had a wonderful time staying in the bus. They flew kites and played football. 'What a good holiday!' said Wilf.
