Biff, Chip and Kipper are looking at someone’s shadow. Can you tell whose shadow it is? You will see lots of people’s shadows. Some are easy to recognize. But, there is one shadow that is a surprise.
비프, 칩 그리고 키퍼는 누군가의 그림자를 보고 있어요. 누구의 그림자인지 말할 수 있나요? 이제 많은 사람들의 그림자를 보게 되요. 몇 개는 쉽게 알아낼 수 있을 거예요. 그러나 그 중에는 놀랄만한 그림자도 하나 있답니다.
Now, let’s go back to the first page of this book.
이제 이 책의 첫 번째 장으로 돌아가봐요.

[Narrator]: When the others saw Biff and Chip’s shadows against the wall of the tent, they laughed. ‘Who is it?’ they shouted. Of course they knew it was Biff and Chip because they knew their shapes. Chip did a little dance and his shadow looked funny as he did it. Biff had an idea for a game. ‘Let’s see who can make the funniest-looking shadow,’ she said.
텐트 벽에 비친 비프와 칩의 그림자를 보고 가족들은 모두 웃었어요. ‘누구지?’
아이들이 소리쳤죠. 그들은 비프와 칩의 형태를 알기 때문에 당연히 비프와 칩의 그림자 인걸 알고 있었어요. 칩은 살랑살랑 춤을 추었고, 그림자 역시 그가 하는 데로 우스꽝스러웠답니다. 비프는 게임이 떠올랐어요. ‘우리 누가 가장 재미있는 그림자를 만들 수 있는지 내기하자!’ 비프가 말했어요.

[Narrator]: Biff and Chip each tried to make a funny shadow. But even though she’d thought of the game, Biff couldn’t think how to make a funny-looking shadow. She tried to make a rabbit shape. ‘Guess what I’m going to make,’ Chip said. He used his fingers to make a face and his thumbs to make two ears. ‘That’s great,’ shouted Kipper. ‘It looks just like a chicken.’ Chip sighed. ‘It’s nothing like a chicken,’ he said.
비프와 칩 각각은 재미있는 그림자를 만들어 보았어요. 비프는 자신이 게임을 생각해내긴 했지만, 어떻게 하면 재미있는 그림자를 만들어야 할지 몰랐어요. 그래서 토끼 모양을 만들어 보았어요. ‘내가 뭘 만들지 맞춰봐’ 칩이 말했어요. 칩은 손가락으로 얼굴을 만들고 엄지로 두 귀를 만들었어요. ‘멋진데,’ 키퍼가 소리쳤어요. ‘정말 닭 모양 같은걸,’ 칩이 한숨을 쉬며 ‘전혀 닭 같지 않아,’ 라고 말했어요.

[Narrator]: Mum and Kipper said they’d have a go at making a funny shadow. Mum put on her big dressing gown. She put her arms out. ‘I am Queen Shady Lady,’ said Mum. She picked up a fly swat and held it above Kipper’s head. ‘This is my servant, Little Pest,’ said Mum. She tapped Kipper on the head with the fly swat. Kipper threw out his arms and fell backwards. Everyone laughed.
엄마와 키퍼도 재미있는 그림자를 만들겠다고 했어요. 엄마는 그녀의 커다란 드레스 가운을 입고, 손을 벌리며, ‘나는 그림자 여왕이다,’ 라고 말했어요. 그리고 엄마는 파리채를 들어서 키퍼의 머리 위에 대며, ‘이 아이는 나의 하인, Little pest이다,’ 라고 말했어요. 그리고 파리채로 키퍼의 머리를 가볍게 쳤어요. 그러자 키퍼는 손을 뻗으며 뒤로 넘어졌어요. 모두가 웃었답니다.

[Narrator]: Then something really funny happened. Floppy and a spaceman appeared. ‘Greetings Earthlings,’ said the spaceman in a funny voice. Everyone was really surprised. ‘It’s amazing,’ said Chip. ‘Who is it?’ ‘It’s a spaceman of course,’ said Mum. ‘I saw the spacecraft landing in the next field. I just forgot to mention it.’ Everyone laughed. They knew who the spaceman was. Floppy barked loudly at him.
그리고 나서, 매우 재미있는 일이 벌어졌어요. 플로피와 우주인이 나타난 거예요. ‘안녕, 지구인들,’ 우주인이 우스운 목소리로 말했어요, 모두가 매우 놀랐어요. ‘굉장한데,’ 라고 칩이 말했어요. ‘누구지?’ ‘당연히 우주인이지,’ 엄마가 말했어요. ‘옆에 들판에 우주선이 착륙하는 걸 봤거든. 너희들에게 얘기해 주는걸 깜박했단다.’ 모두들 웃었어요. 다들 우주인이 누구인 줄 알았거든요. 그리고 플로피는 그를 향해 크게 짖어댔습니다.

[Narrator]: ‘It’s not a real spaceman, then,’ laughed Kipper. ‘No, it’s Dad,’ said Dad. Everyone laughed when they saw how Dad had made himself look like a spaceman. He had put his legs inside Biff and Chip’s sleeping bags and he had a padded anorak on. He had a plastic bowl on his head. ‘That was a great joke,’ said Mum. ‘You looked just like a spaceman when you were a shadow.’ ‘But now you just look funny!’ laughed Biff.
'그럼 진짜 우주인이 아니네,’ 키퍼가 웃었어요. ‘아니야, 아빠란다,’ 아빠가 말했어요. 아빠가 어떻게 외계인으로 분장했는지 보았을 때 모두가 웃었답니다. 아빠는 비프와 칩의 침낭에 다리를 넣고 패딩 점퍼를 입었어요. 머리에는 플라스틱 그릇을 쓰고요. ‘멋진 장난이었어요,’ 엄마가 말했어요. ‘아빠, 그림자에선 정말로 우주인 같았어요,’ ‘하지만 지금은 정말 우스꽝스러워요!’ 비프가 웃으며 말했어요.
