[Narrator]: It was Kipper’s first day at school. He held on to the gatepost.
키퍼가 학교에 처음 간 날, 키퍼는 기둥에 매달려 있었어요.
[Kipper]: I don’t want to go.

[Mum]: Come on Kipper.

[Narrator]: Oh dear! This is Kipper on his first day at nursery school. ‘Come on Kipper,’ said Mum. ‘You’ll really like it when you get inside.’ But Kipper felt very very nervous. Kipper thought, ‘What if nobody likes me!’
키퍼가 유치원에 처음 간 날입니다. ‘이리와 키퍼’ 엄마가 말했어요. ‘안으로 들어가면 재미 있는 게 많단다’. 하지만 키퍼는 매우 긴장했어요. 키퍼는 생각했어요 ‘ 만약에 아무도 나랑 놀아주지 않으면 어쩌지?’

[Narrator]: At last, Mum and Miss Harvey, the teacher, persuaded Kipper to go inside. The room was full of children all playing busily. ‘Hello,’ some of them said. ‘Come and play with us.’ ‘Come and play with me and Tony,’ said Caroline. ‘We’ve got a whole box of cars like this one to play with.’
드디어 엄마와 Harvey 선생님이 키퍼에게 안으로 들어가자고 했어요. 방은 신나게 노는 아이들로 북적거렸어요. ‘안녕’ 몇몇 친구들이 말했어요. ‘우리랑 놀자.’ ‘나랑 토니랑 같이 놀자’, Caroline이 말했어요. 우리 갖고 놀 수 있는 장난감 자동차들이 가득 담긴 박스가 있어.’

[Narrator]: Kipper played with Caroline and Tony for a little while. Then Miss Harvey suggested that he went to play in the home corner. The home corner had a pretend cooker with pretend pots and pans. It had a little pretend sink and a pretend washing machine, and an ironing board with a toy iron. It even had a toy vacuum cleaner. ‘Come and play in the home corner, Kipper,’ said Miss Harvey.
키퍼는 Caroline과 Tony와 놀았어요. 그때 Harvey선생님이 홈 코너에 가서 노는 것이 어떠냐고 물어봤어요. 홈 코너에는 요리사역할을 맡은 아이와 모형 냄비와 프라이팬들이 있었어요. 모형 싱크대와 세탁기, 그리고 모형 다리미판과 장난감 다리미. 장난감 청소기까지 있었어요. ‘집 놀이 코너로 와서 놀자, 키퍼.’ Harvey선생님이 말했어요.

[Narrator]: Kipper decided to make a huge pretend stew. ‘I’ll put in carrots, and onions, and peas, and ice-cream, and sausages,’ he said. He put so many pieces of Lego in the pan that some of them feel out when he stirred them. ‘Watch out!’ said Lisa. Everyone in the nursery was busy. Everyone looked happy. Everyone shared all the toys and played together.
키퍼는 대형모형스튜를 만들기로 했어요. ’당근이랑 양파랑 완두콩이랑 아이스크림이랑 소시지랑 넣어야지,’ 그는 말했어요. 키퍼는 저었을 때 넘칠 만큼 많은 레고 블록을 팬 안에 넣었어요. ‘조심해!’ 리사가 말했어요. 유치원에 있는 모두가 재미있게 놀았어요. 모두들 행복해 보였어요. 모두가 장난감을 나누고 함께 놀았어요.

[Narrator]: Kipper didn’t want to go home. ‘Do I have to go?’ he said. Mum had to make Kipper put his coat on, and she had to pull Kipper out of the door. ‘Good Bye,’ called Miss Harvey. ‘I’ll see you tomorrow!’ ‘Bye Bye, Miss Harvey!’ said Kipper. ‘I don’t know. I had to pull you in. Now I’ve got to pull you out.’ Mum said.
키퍼는 집에 가길 원하지 않았어요. ‘집에 꼭 가야 해?’ 그는 말했어요. 엄마는 키퍼에게 코트를 입게 하고, 문밖으로 나왔어요. ‘잘 가렴’ Harvey 선생님이 말했어요. ‘내일 보자!’ ‘선생님 안녕히 계세요!’ 키퍼가 인사했어요. ‘아침에는 너를 안으로 데려가기 위해 애썼지만 이제는 집에 가기 위해 밖으로 데리고 나오게 애써야 하네.’ 엄마는 말했습니다.
