What’s this story about? (어떤 이야기 일까요?)
The children play some ball games but keep losing the ball. Dad has a good idea and buys them a new ball game to try.
아이들은 공을 갖고 게임을 하지만 공을 잃어버려요. 아빠는 좋은 생각이 떠올라서 새로운 공 게임을 할 수 있는 놀이기구를 사게 됩니다.
Talk Together (다 함께 이야기해 봅시다.)
Talk about playing games outside. Remind each other what usually happens to balls when you play in the garden or in the park. Explain that a Swing Ball is one way not to lose the ball.
밖에서 게임 하는 것에 대해 이야기해 보세요. 보통 정원이나 공원에서 공 놀이를 하면 무슨 일이 벌어지는지 생각해 보게 하세요. ‘스윙 볼’게임이 공을 잃어버리지 않는 방법이라고 설명해 주세요.
Read the story (이야기를 읽어보세요.)
W = Word recognition (단어인지) C = Language comprehension (언어이해)
C: Page 1, ask, “What happened to the ball?”, “What do you think Dad said?”
1 페이지를 보고 물어보세요. “공에 무슨 일이 생겼니?”, “아빠가 뭐라고 말한 것 같니?”
C: Pages 2-3, talk about the shuttlecock. Ask, “Is this a better idea?”, “How did the shuttlecock get on the roof?”, “How is Dad going to get it down?”
2~3페이지에 나오는 셔틀콕에 대해 이야기해보고 물어보세요. “더 좋은 아이디어일까?”, “어떻게 셔틀콕은 지붕 위에 올라가 있을 수 있을까?”, “아빠는 어떻게 공을 밑으로 떨어뜨릴까?”
C: Pages 4-5, talk about playing cricket. Ask, “What tells you Biff hit the ball very hard?”, “What happened to the ball?”, “What do you think the neighbour said?”

4~5페이지 나오는 크리켓 놀이에 대해 이야기해보고 물어보세요. “비프가 공을 매우 세게 친 것은 무엇을 말해 주고 있니?”, “공에 무슨 일이 일어났니?”, “이웃 사람들이 뭐라고 말했을 것 같니?”
W: Page 6, ask the child to sound out and blend the letters on the box to read the words. Help if the child gets stuck.
6페이지, 박스에 적혀있는 혼성 단어를 아이보고 소리 내어 읽어 보라고 하세요. 아이가 어려워 한다면 도와주세요.
C: Ask, “Have you seen a swing ball before?”, “What do you notice about the ball?”
물어보세요, “전에 공을 치는 것을 본 적이 있니?”, “공놀이 할 때 주의사항은 무엇일까?”
C: Page 8, talk about the game. Ask, “Does it look easy to play?”, “Why have they tied up Floppy?”
8페이지를 보고 게임에 대해 이야기해보고 물어보세요. “쉽게 게임 할 수 있어 보이니?”, “왜 아이들은 플로피를 묶어 두었을까?”
C: Ask the child to retell the story from the beginning.
아이에게 처음부터 다시 이야기를 말해보라고 하세요.

Play a game(게임하기)
What happened? (무슨 일이 일어났니?)
To help the child use the pictures to tell parts of the story.
아이가 이야기의 그림들을 이용해서 말 할 수 있게 도와줍니다.
ㆍOpen the book at any page, give it to the child and ask, “What happened?” The child might reply, “Biff hit the ball over the fence.”
책에서 아무 페이지를 펴고 아이에게 물어보세요. “무슨 일이 일어났니?” 그러면 아이는 “비프가 울타리 너머로 공을 쳤어요.”라고 말 할거에요.
ㆍThen the child opens the book at a different page and gives it to you. You say what happened.
그 다음에는 아이가 다른 페이지를 펴고 여러분에게 보여주면 여러분이 무슨 일이 일어났는지 말하세요.
ㆍHave two or three turns each.
2~3번씩 돌아가면서 하세요.
Other ideas(다른방법)
You can use these ideas straight away, or on another day.
이 방법은 바로 사용 해도 되고, 다른 날 해도 됩니다.
ㆍUse a balloon to play indoors. Pat the balloon to keep it in the air for as long as possible.
실내에서 놀 수 있도록 풍선을 이용해 보세요. 가능하면 길게 풍선을 공중에 뜰 수 있도록 가볍게 쳐보세요.
ㆍOutside, use a soft ball to practice throwing and catching.
밖에서는, 가벼운 공을 사용하여 던지고 받는 연습을 해보세요.
