Dad looks as though he’s concentrating hard. He’s cooking a pancake, and that’s what this story is called-Pancake.
Pancakes are delicious, but they can be tricky to make.
In this story, Dad has quite a lot of help when he makes the pancake. The ending isn’t quite what you’d expect, so we’d better read it to find out what happened.
아빠가 무언가 열심히 하고 계신 것 같아요. 아빠는 팬케이크를 만들고 있어요. 그래서 이 이야기는 팬케이크라고 이야기에요.
팬케이크는 맛있지만, 만들기가 까다로울 수 있어요.
이 이야기 속에서 아빠가 팬케이크를 만들 때 꽤 많은 도움을 받게 되요. 끝 이야기가 여러분이 상상하는 것과는 다를 거에요. 그래서 무슨 일이 일어나게 되는 지 책을 읽어 보면 알 수 있을 거에요.

Dad loves to watch programmes about cooking on television, so when he came to make a pancake, he decided to have some fun. He pretended he was on television. Biff and Chip were used to Dad’s jokes, so they joined in.
아빠는 텔레비전에서 보여주는 요리프로그램 보는 것을 좋아해요. 그래서 아빠는 팬케이크를 만들 때, 즐거움을 주기로 결심했어요.
아빠는 텔레비전에 나오는 것처럼 했어요. Biff와 Chip은 아빠의 놀이에 익숙해 있어서 함께 하기로 했어요.
‘The frying pan,’ said Dad ‘To make the pancake, you need a large pan.’
‘프라이팬’ 하고 아빠가 말했어요. ‘팬케이크를 만들기 위해서 크고 납작한 냄비(팬)이 필요합니다.’
Chip pointed at Dad. ’But first you need a large cook,’ he laughed.
Chip은 아빠를 손으로 가리켰어요. ‘그렇지만 먼저 어른 요리사가 필요해요,’ 아빠가 웃었어요.
‘And make sure he has washed his hands,’ laughed Biff.
‘그리고 아빠가 손을 닦았는지 꼭 확인하세요,’ Biff가 웃었어요.
‘Cheeky!’ said Dad.
‘장난꾸러기들!’ 아빠가 말했어요.

‘Since you’re so cheeky, you can all help me,’ said Dad to the children. ‘You can fetch me the ingredients. I’ll need a bag of flour and some eggs.’
‘너희들이 너무 장난을 쳤기 때문에, 아빠를 도와야 한단다.’ 아빠가 아이들에게 말했어요. ‘너희들은 재료를 가져다 주렴. 밀가루 자루와 계란이 필요하단다.’
‘The flour,’ said Biff, tipping some into Dad’s bowl.
‘밀가루.’ Biff가 말하며 밀가루를 아빠의 큰 그릇에 부었어요.
‘Hang on,’ said Dad, ‘You can’t just tip it in like that. We have to weigh some out.’
‘잠깐,’ 하고 아빠가 말했어요,’지금처럼 그렇게 부으면 안돼요. 저울로 무게를 달아 나누어야 한단다.’
‘The eggs,’ said Chip. Kipper took one and cracked it into the bowl.
‘계란,’ Chip이 말했어요. Kipper는 계란 하나를 집어서 큰 그릇에 깨서 넣었어요.
‘Hand on,’ said Dad, it was too late. Kipper had already cracked the egg.
‘잠깐,’ 하고 아빠가 말했어요, 하지만 늦어버렸어요. Kipper가 벌써 계란을 깨어버렸어요.

‘Now,’ said Dad, ‘the next thing to do is to whisk some milk into the flour and egg. ’
‘자, 이제,’ 아빠가 말했어요,’다음 순서는 밀가루와 계란에 우유를 넣고 저을 거에요.’
Biff poured a little of the milk into the bowl. ‘The milk,’ she said. Chip began to whisk the mixture.
Biff는 그 큰 그릇에 조금의 우유를 부었어요. ‘우유,’ Biff가 말했어요. Chip은 섞여있는 재료들을 휘젓기 시작했어요.
‘Steady, Chip,’ said Biff. ‘You’re making the flour fly everywhere.’
‘조심해, Chip,’ Biff가 말했어요. ‘너 때문에 사방에 밀가루가 날리고 있잖아.’
‘Meanwhile, Kipper and I will melt some butter in the frying pan,’ said Dad.
‘그 사이에, Kipper와 나는 프라이팬에 버터를 녹일 거란다.’ 라고 아빠가 말했어요.
Kipper cut off a slab of butter. ‘The butter,’ he said.
Kipper는 버터를 한 조각 잘랐어요. ‘버터,’ 라고 Kipper가 말했어요.

‘Now stand back everyone,’ said Dad. ‘I’m going to cook the pancake.’
‘이제 모두 물러서렴,’ 하고 아빠가 말했어요. ‘팬케이크를 만들어야겠구나.’
Everyone stood back as Dad heated up the butter on the stove. There was a sizzling noise as Dad poured some of the mixture into the hot pan. Soon the pancake was cooked on one side. ‘Now to turn it over,’ said Dad.
아빠가 스토브 위에 있는 버터를 뜨겁게 하자, 모두들 뒤로 물러섰어요. 아빠가 뜨거운 팬 위로 섞여있는 재료들을 붓자, 지글지글하는 소리가 났어요. 금새 팬케이크가 한 쪽 면이 구워졌어요. ‘이제 돌려볼까,’ 하고 아빠가 말했어요.
‘Stand back even further,’ he ordered.
‘좀더 뒤로 물러서렴.’ 아빠가 말했습니다.
‘Oh, no!’ said Biff. ‘He’s going to toss the pancake. I hope it doesn’t end up on the floor. ‘
‘오, 안돼!’ Biff가 말했어요. ‘아빠는 팬케이크를 위로 던져 올리실 거야. 팬케이크가 바닥에 떨어지지 않았으면 좋겠어.’
‘Or stick to the ceiling,’ laughed Chip.
‘아니면 천장에 붙지 않거나.’ Chip가 웃었어요.
‘The pancake,’ said Dad. ‘Here it goes!’ and he tossed it high in the air.
‘팬케이크,’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘간다!’ 그리고 아빠는 공중으로 높이 던져 올렸어요.

Well, Dad didn’t drop the pancake, and he and the children hadn’t made it to eat. They had made it so that Mum could be in the pancake race. Mum ran like the wind with Dad’s pancake. She had to toss it as she ran because that what you have to do in a pancake race.
자, 아빠는 팬케이크를 떨어뜨리지 않았어요. 아빠와 아이들은 먹으려고 팬케이크를 만들었던 게 아니었어요. 팬케이크 경주에 참가할 엄마를 위해 만들었어요. 엄마는 아빠가 만들어준 팬케이크를 들고 바람처럼 달렸어요. 엄마는 달리면서 팬케이크를 위로 던져 올렸어요. 팬케이크 경주에서 꼭 해야 하는 것이었기 때문이에요.
‘Come on Mum!’ shouted Biff, Chip and Kipper.
‘달려요 엄마!’ Biff, Chip과 Kipper가 소리쳤어요.
It was an exciting race. Mum came first, but only just.
흥미진진한 경주였어요. 엄마는 가까스로 먼저 왔어요.
‘Well done Mum,’ shouted Kipper.
‘잘 했어요 엄마.’ Kipper가 소리쳤어요.
‘I know what we can have for supper tonight,’ said Chip when they got home.
‘오늘 저녁 식사가 먼지 알 거 같아,’ 집으로 돌아오는 길에 Chip이 말했어요.
‘Pancakes?’ said Dad.
‘팬케이크?’ 아빠가 말했어요.
‘No, pizza,’ said Chip.
‘아니요, 피자요,’ Chip이 말했어요.
