Have you ever been really hot? Imagine what it is like when it is so hot that all you want to do is jump into a nice cool swimming pool or spray yourself from head to toe with lovely cold water. This story tells what happened on a very, very hot Saturday afternoon one summer.

It was one of those really hot days. Everyone was hot.
¸Å¿ì ´õ¿î ³¯ Áß ¾î´À ÇÏ·ç¿´¾î¿ä. ¸ðµÎµé ¸Å¿ì ´õ¿ü¾î¿ä.

It was so hot that the family sat outside and wondered what to do to get cool.
³Ê¹«³ª ´õ¿ö¼­ °¡Á·Àº ¹Û¿¡ ¾É¾Æ ¹«¾ùÀ» ÇÏ¸é ½Ã¿øÇÒÁö »ý°¢Çß¾î¿ä.

Dad sat in his deck chair and snoozed. Biff and Chip sat on the grass and couldn¡¯t be bothered to do anything &¾Æºü´Â Á¢´Â ÀÇÀÚ¿¡ ¾É¾Æ Á¹¾Ò¾î¿ä. Biff¿Í ChipÀº Àܵ𿡠¾É¾Æ ±ÍÂú¾Æ¼­ ¾Æ¹« °Íµµ ÇÏÁö ¸øÇÏ°í ÀÖ¾ú¾î¿ä. - Àϱ¤¿åÁ¶Â÷µµ¿ä.

¡®Anyway, it¡¯s too hot to sunbathe,¡¯ said Chip.
¡®¾î·µç, Àϱ¤¿åÇϱ⿡ ³Ê¹« ´õ¿ö.¡¯ ChipÀÌ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

Mum was the only one who was happy.

¡®I love hot days,¡¯ she said. ¡®I¡¯m going to lie on a rug, have a nice cool drink, read a book, and pretend I¡¯m on a lovely beach somewhere.¡¯
¡®³­ ´õ¿î ³¯ÀÌ ÁÁ¾Æ.¡¯ ¾ö¸¶°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®³­ µ¾ÀÚ¸® À§¿¡ ´©¿ö¼­ ½Ã¿øÇÑ À½·á¼ö¸¦ ¸¶½Ã¸ç Ã¥ÀÐ°í ³»°¡ ¾Æ¸§´Ù¿î ¹Ù´å°¡¿¡ ¿Ô´Ù°í »ý°¢ÇÒ²¨¾ß.¡¯

¡®We¡¯re hot,¡¯ moaned Biff and Chip.
¡®¿ì¸° ´õ¿ö¿ä.¡¯ Biff¿Í ChipÀÌ Åõ´ú°Å·È¾î¿ä.

¡®I¡¯m not surprised,¡¯ said Mum. ¡®Take off your socks and trainers and go and put your swim-suits on.¡¯
¡®³î¶øÁö ¾Ê¾Æ.¡¯ ¾ö¸¶°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®¾ç¸»°ú ½Å¹ßÀ» ¹þ°í °¡¼­ ¼ö¿µº¹À» ÀÔ°í ¿À·Å¡¯

¡®We can¡¯t be bothered,¡¯ said Biff. ¡®It¡¯s too hot.¡¯

Suddenly Chip had an idea. ¡®I¡¯ve had a brilliant idea!¡¯ he said, and he told Biff and Kipper what it was.
°©ÀÚ±â Chip¿¡°Ô ÁÁÀº »ý°¢ÀÌ ¶°¿Ã¶ú¾î¿ä. ¡®ÁÁÀº »ý°¢ÀÌ ÀÖ¾î!¡¯ ±×¸®°í ±×´Â Biff¿Í Kipper¿¡°Ô ±×°ÍÀÌ ¹«¾ùÀÎÁö ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

The children wanted to go swimming. It seemed a very good idea to them, but not such a good idea to Dad.

The children were disappointed when Dad said ¡®No!¡¯
¾ÆÀ̵éÀº ¾Æºü°¡ ¡®¾ÈµÅ.¡¯¶ó°í ÇÏÀÚ ½Ç¸ÁÇß¾î¿ä.

¡®On a day like this, everyone will be going to the swimming pool,¡¯ he said. ¡®We¡¯ll have to sit in a hot car and get in a long queue and then the pool will be packed with people.¡¯

Then you can get cool and Dad and I won¡¯t have you moaning all afternoon about how hot you are.¡¯

So Biff got the paddling pool, and began to blow it up with the foot pump.

Chip just watched. He was fed up because Dad wouldn¡¯t take them to the swimming pool.
ChipÀº ¹Ù¶ó¸¸ º¸°í ÀÖ¾ú¾î¿ä. ±×´Â ¾Æºü°¡ ±×µéÀ» ¼ö¿µÀå¿¡ µ¥¸®°í °¡Áö ¾Ê¾Æ ÁöÃÄÀÖ¾ú¾î¿ä.

¡®Come on, Chip,¡¯ called Biff. ¡®I don¡¯t see why you can¡¯t help. It¡¯s hard work pumping this thing up.¡¯
¡®¾î¼­, Chip.' Biff°¡ ¿ÜÃƾî¿ä. ¡¯³×°¡ ¿Ö ¾È µ½´ÂÁö ¸ð¸£°Ú´Ù. ¹Ù¶÷ ³Ö´Â°Å Èûµé´Ü ¸»¾ß.¡®

Even before Biff had finished, Kipper got the hose. He turned the tap on, pointed the hose at the paddling pool, and filled it with water.

At least Biff managed to pump the paddling pool up until the slides were nice and firm.

¡®³Í ¿©±â¼­ ³î ÀÚ°ÝÀÌ ¾ø¾î.¡¯ Biff°¡ Chip¿¡°Ô ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®³Í ¾È µµ¿ÔÀÚ³Ê.¡¯

¡®No,¡¯ agreed Kipper. ¡®it¡¯s only me and Biff allowed in the paddling pool.¡¯
¡®¸Â¾Æ.¡¯ Kipperµµ °Åµé¾ú¾î¿ä. ¡®³ª¶û Biff¸¸ÀÌ ¿©±â¼­ ³î ¼ö ÀÖ¾î.¡¯

¡®We¡¯ll see about that,¡¯ said Chip. He suddenly rushed up and pushed Biff in the water, then he grabbed the hose.
¡®¾î¶»°Ô µÇ´ÂÁö º¸ÀÚ±¸.¡¯ ChipÀÌ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ±×¸®°í´Â °©ÀÚ±â Biff¿¡°Ô·Î µ¹ÁøÇؼ­ ±×³à¸¦ ¹° ¼ÓÀ¸·Î ¹Ð¾ú¾î¿ä. ±×¸®°í´Â È£½º¸¦ Àâ¾Ò¾î¿ä.

¡®That¡¯s it!¡¯ yelled Biff. ¡®I¡¯ve had enough of you, Chip.¡¯ She picked up a little bucket, filled it with water and threw it at Chip.
'±×°É·Î µÆ¾î!¡® Biff°¡ ¼Ò¸®Ãƾî¿ä. ¡¯±×¸¸ÇÏ¸é µÆ¾î, Chip.' Biff´Â ÀÛÀº ¾çµ¿À̸¦ µé¾î ¹°À» ä¿î ´ÙÀ½ Chip¿¡°Ô ºÎ¾ú¾î¿ä.

Chip laughed and put his thumb over the end of the hose.
ChipÀº ¿ôÀº ´ÙÀ½, ±×ÀÇ ¾öÁö¼Õ°¡¶ôÀ» È£½ºÀÇ ³¡¿¡ ´ò¾î¿ä.

The water came out in a fine spray. He sent the spray all over Biff. Meanwhile Kipper tried to pull the hose away from Chip.
¹°Àº ¸ÚÁö°Ô »Õ¾îÁ® ³ª¿Ô¾î¿ä. ±×´Â Biff¿¡°Ô ¹°À» »Ñ·È¾î¿ä. ±×·¯´Â µ¿¾È Kipper´Â È£½º¸¦ Chip¿¡°Ô·ÎºÎÅÍ »¯À¸·Á°í Çß¾î¿ä.

That¡¯s how they had a water fight and in the end it was a lot of fun.

It was even more fun when Chip decided to squirt the hose somewhere else. He gave a terrible laugh and turned the hose on Mum!

Mum got wet. ¡®Aaaah,¡¯ screamed Mum. ¡®You little menace, Chip. Now I¡¯m all wet.¡¯
¾ö¸¶°¡ Á¥¾ú¾î¿ä. ¡®¾Æ¾Æ¾Æ,¡¯ ¾ö¸¶°¡ ¼Ò¸® Áú·¶¾î¿ä. ¡®¿ä °³±¸ÀïÀÌ, Chip, ÀÌÁ¦ ³ª ´Ù Á¥¾úÀݾÆ.¡¯

The children laughed and Kipper looked at Dad. ¡®Don¡¯t you dare. Stop it,¡¯ said Dad.
¾ÆÀ̵éÀº ¿ô¾ú°í Kipper´Â ¾Æºü¸¦ ¹Ù¶óºÃ¾î¿ä. ¡®°¨È÷ ³ª¿¡°Ô, ÇÏÁö¸¶.¡¯ ¾Æºü°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

¡®Don¡¯t ¡¦No¡¦You wouldn¡¯t ¡¦These are dry trousers¡¦Chip¡¦!¡¯
¡®¾ÈµÅ, ¾ÈµÅ, ¾È ÇÒ²¨Áö... ÀÌ°Ç ¸¶¸¥ ¹ÙÁö¶õ ¸»ÀÌÁö.. Chip!'

It was no good! Chip pointed the hose at Dad and¡¦well. You can guess what he did.
¾Æ¹« ¼Ò¿ë¾ø¾ú¾î¿ä. ChipÀÇ È£½º´Â ¾Æºü¸¦ ÇâÇß¾î¿ä. ¹¹, ±×¸®°í.. ±×°¡ ¾î¶»°Ô Çß´ÂÁö´Â »ó»óÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ°ÚÁÒ?

Everyone laughed and Dad laughed too. After all it was such a hot day that nobody minded getting wet.

Dad got a bucket of water. Then he chased Chip. Chip ran away as fast as he could but Dad wasn¡¯t going to let Chip get away.
¾Æºü´Â ¹°ÀÌ ´ã±ä ¾çµ¿À̸¦ °¡Á®¿Ô¾î¿ä. ±×¸®°í´Â ChipÀÌ ÂѾҾî¿ä. ChipÀº ´Þ¸± ¼ö ÀÖ´Â ÇÑ °¡Àå »¡¸® ´Þ·ÈÁö¸¸ ¾Æºü´Â ChipÀÌ µµ¸Á°¡µµ·Ï ³»¹ö·ÁµÎÁö ¾Ê¾Ò¾î¿ä.

He chased Chip and Chip climbed up the step-ladder on to the roof of the shed.
¾Æºü´Â ChipÀ» ÂѾư¬°í ChipÀº Çê°£ÀÇ ÁöºØ¿¡ ¾ñ¾îÁ®ÀÖ´Â »ç´Ù¸®·Î ¿Ã¶ó°¬¾î¿ä.

¡®That was a bad move,¡¯ called Dad. ¡®I¡¯m going to get you now!¡¯
¡®±×¸®°í °¡´Â °ÍÀº ½Ç¼öÇѰžß.¡¯ ¾Æºü°¡ ¿ÜÃƾî¿ä. ¡®ÀÌÁ¦ ³Î ÀâÀ»Å×´Ù.¡¯

Chip scrambled across the roof of the shed, trying to get away from Dad.
ChipÀº ¾Æºü¿¡°Ô ÀâÈ÷Áö ¾Êµµ·Ï Çê°£ÀÇ ÁöºØÀ¸·Î ±â¾î¿Ã¶ó°¬¾î¿ä.

He hoped he could aim the hose at Dad and give him a good soaking.
ChipÀº ±×°¡ ¾Æºü¿¡°Ô È£½º¸¦ °Ü´©¾î ¾Æºü¸¦ Á¥°Ô ¸¸µé°í ½Í¾ú¾î¿ä.

¡®Go on, Dad,¡¯ laughed Biff. ¡®Let him have it!¡¯
¡®¾î¼­¿ä, ¾Æºü.¡¯ Biff°¡ ¿ô¾ú¾î¿ä. ¡®ChipÀÌ Á¥°Ô ¸¸µé¾î¿ä.¡¯

Dad swung back the bucket and threw the water at Chip. Whoosh! The trouble was, Dad¡¯s aim wasn¡¯t very good.
¾Æºü´Â ¾çµ¿À̸¦ µÚ·Î Èֵѷ¯ Chip¿¡°Ô ¹°À» ºÎ¾ú¾î¿ä. ÀÌ·±! ¹®Á¦´Â ¾Æºü°¡ Á¶ÁØÀ» À߸ø Çߴٴ°ſ¹¿ä.

The water swooshed out of the bucket and missed Chip altogether. It sloshed over the fence and went all over the man next door.
¾Æºü°¡ »Ñ¸° ¹°Àº ChipÀ» ¿ÏÀüÈ÷ ºø³ª°¬¾î¿ä. ±×°ÍÀº ´ãÀåÀ» ³Ñ¾î ¿·Áý ¾ÆÀú¾¾¸¦ ¸ÂÃè¾î¿ä.
¡®¿À, Àú·±!¡¯ ¸ðµÎ°¡ »ý°¢Çß¾î¿ä.

¡®Oh no!¡¯ everyone thought. The man who lived next door wasn¡¯t very friendly.
¿·Áý ¾ÆÀú¾¾´Â ±×´ÙÁö Ä£ÀýÇÑ »ç¶÷ÀÌ ¾Æ´Ï¿´¾î¿ä.

He woudn¡¯t like being soaked to the skin - even on a hot day like this.
¿À´Ã°°ÀÌ ´õ¿î ³¯¿¡µµ ±× ¾ÆÀú¾¾´Â Á¥´Â °ÍÀ» ÁÁ¾ÆÇÏÁö ¾ÊÀ» °Í °°¾Ò¾î¿ä.
