Mum and Dad were going out. They were going to something called a ¡®Dinner-Dance¡¯.

¡®I wonder what a dinner-dance can be?¡¯ said Biff. ¡®I bet if we danced about when we had dinner we¡¯d get into trouble.¡¯

Mum and Dad got the children to bed a little bit early. ¡®I wish we didn¡¯t have to be in bed,¡¯ said Chip. ¡®I¡¯d like to see Mum and Dad off. I bet Mum looks nice in her new dress.¡¯

At that moment the baby-sitter came. ¡®Who did Mum say it was?¡¯ whispered Chip.

Dad had seen Biff and Chip creeping down the stairs so he pretended to be cross. ¡®

For a little while after Mum and Dad had gone, everything was quiet. The baby-sitter sat in a chair and did some writing.

But then the children came downstairs. ¡®We couldn¡¯t¡¯ sleep,¡¯ they said.

And it was quite true, they couldn¡¯t sleep. In fact they were all wide awake and they knew that this baby-sitter wouldn¡¯t be strict with them and send them back upstairs.

Half hour went by, and then an hour. The baby-sitter decided to make the children a hot drink.
