Have you ever been poorly? Have you ever had spots? Did you stay in bed? Who looked after you? This is what happened when Kipper woke up one morning and didn’t feel very well.
아파본 적 있나요? 열꽃이 난 적이 있나요? 침대에 누워있었나요? 누가 돌보았었나요?
이 이야기는 Kipper가 몸이 안좋은 어느 아침에 일어나 일어난 일이예요.

When Kipper woke up, he didn’t feel very well. His head ached and he felt hot all over. Worst of all, his skin felt itchy and uncomfortable.
Kipper가 일어났을 때 그다지 몸이 좋지 않았어요. 머리가 아프고 온몸이 뜨거웠어요. 가장 최악이였던 것은 피부가 가렵고 불편하다는 것이였어요.
Dad went into Kipper’s room to take a look. When he saw Kipper he gasped because Kipper had spots.
아빠가 Kipper의 방으로 보러 갔어요. 아빠는 Kipper를 보고 놀랐어요. 왜냐면 Kipper의 몸에 열꽃이 생겼기 때문이예요.
‘You poor thing,’ said Dad. ‘I think you may have got chicken pox.’
‘불쌍한 것.’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘내 생각에 너 수두를 하는 것 같구나.’
‘But I’m not a chicken,’ said Kipper miserably. ‘How can I have chicken pox?’
‘하지만 난 닭이 아닌데요.’ Kipper가 슬퍼하며 말했어요. ‘어떻게 수두를 할 수가 있어요?’
‘People get chicken pox,’ said Dad, ‘not chickens. Now you stay in bed and I’ll make you a nice drink.’
‘사람들은 수두에 걸린단다.’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘닭이 아니라 사람이 말야. 이제 침대에 누워 쉬거라. 내가 마실 것을 좀 가져다 주마.’

Dad went down to the kitchen to make Kipper a nice hot blackcurrant drink.
아빠는 아래 부엌으로 가서 Kipper를 위해 따뜻한 건포도 쥬스를 만들었어요.
It was still quite early and nobody else had woken up. ‘I’ll just get Kipper settled down,’ thought Dad. ‘Then I’ll take Mum a cup of tea.’
여전히 꽤 이른 아침시간이여서 아직 아무도 일어나지 않았었어요. ‘Kipper가 안정할 수 있도록 해주어야겠군.’ 아빠는 생각했어요. ‘그리고는 엄마에게 차를 타다 줘야지.’
But at the moment Biff and Chip appeared at the kitchen door, and guess what? Biff and Chip had spots, too.
그때, Biff와 Chip이 부엌문에 나타났어요. 그리고는 추측해보세요. Biff와 Chip에게도 열꽃이 났어요.
‘Goodness me,’ said Dad. ‘You’ve got chicken pox as well. At least I think it’s chicken pox. I think I’ll call the doctor, just to make sure.’
‘이런.’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘너희들도 수두에 걸렸구나. 최소한도 내 생각엔 수두야. 확인하게 의사 선생님을 불러야겠다.’

Dad sent Biff and Chip back to bed. Then he made all the children a nice hot blackcurrant drink. At last he took Mum her cup of tea.
아빠는 Biff와 Chip을 침대로 돌려보냈어요. 그리고는 아이들에게 따뜻한 건포도 쥬스를 만들어 주었어요. 그리고는 마침내 엄마에게 차를 가져다 주었어요.
The trouble was, Mum didn’t feel well that morning, either. She had a headache and her body ached all over.
문제는, 엄마 역시 그날 아침, 몸이 좋지 않았다는 것이예요. 엄마는 머리가 아프고 온 몸이 아팠어요.
‘Do you mind if I don’t get up for a bit,’ said Mum. ‘I’m sure if I could have a little lie in, I ‘d feel as right as rain.’
‘내가 늦게 일어나도 될까요?’ 엄마가 말했어요. 조금 더 누워있으면 몸이 괜찮아질 것 같아요.‘
‘All right,’ said Dad. ‘But I’m going to call the doctor to look at the children so maybe you’d better see the doctor, too.’
‘좋아요.’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘난 아이들 때문에 의사선생님을 불러야해요. 당신도 진찰받아 보는 것이 좋겠어요.’
At last the doctor came. She took a look at Biff and Chip. ‘You’ve both got slight temperatures and it looks as if you have chicken pox.’ Stay in bed,’ she said. ‘and try not to scratch those spots.’
그리고 의사선생님이 왔어요. 선생님은 Biff와 Chip을 진찰했어요. ‘너희 둘다 약간의 열이 있고 수두를 하는 것 같구나. 침대에서 쉬렴.’ 선생님이 말했어요. ‘그리고 그 열꽃들을 긁지 않도록 하렴.’

‘I think you’d better take a look at my wife,’ Dad told the doctor. ‘She isn’t feeling very well this morning, either.’
'제 아내도 진찰해 주세요.‘ 아빠가 의사선생님에게 말했어요. ’오늘 아침에 몸이 안 좋다고 했거든요.‘
Mum was sitting downstairs in a chair. When the doctor went in with Dad to see her, Dad had quite a shock. Mum had spots.
엄마는 아래층 의자에 앉아 있었어요. 의사선생님이 아빠와 함께 엄마를 보러 내려왔을 때 아빠는 꽤 놀랐어요. 엄마도 열꽃이 났기 때문이예요.
‘Goodness!’ said Dad. ‘Don’t say you’ve got chicken pox as well as the children.’
‘이런.’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘당신도 아이들처럼 수두에 걸렸다고 하지 말아요.’
‘Oohhhh,’ groaned Mum. ‘Chicken pox is the last thing I want.’
‘우.’ 엄마가 신음했어요. ‘가장 하기 싫은게 수두라구요.’
‘Well you must stay in bed, too,’ said the doctor. ‘Plenty of rest, lots of nice drinkjs, and try not to scratch those spots.’
‘아주머니도 침대에서 쉬셔야겠어요.’ 의사선생님이 말했어요. ‘충분한 휴식, 많은 양의 좋은 음료를 섭취하고 긁지 않도록 하세요.’

SO Kipper, Biff, Chip, and Mum all stayed in bed and Dad looked after everyone. He made sure that they had plenty of nice soothing drinks.
그리하여 Kipper, Biff, Chip, 엄마는 침대에 누워있고 아빠가 모두를 돌보았어요. 아빠는 충분한 휴식과 좋은 음료를 섭취하도록 했어요.
He took them things to read and he made them nice meals. When he took some food up to Mum, he even put a vase with some flowers in it on the tray.
아빠는 읽을 것을 가져다 주기도 하고 맛있는 음식을 만들어 주었어요. 아빠가 엄마에게 먹을 것을 가져다 줄 때, 아빠는 꽃병에 꽃도 꽂아 함께 가져다 주었어요.
‘I don’t know why I should get chicken pox,’ complained Mum. ‘I thought it was something that only children got. Perhaps I didn’t get it when I was little.’
‘내가 왜 수두를 해야 하는지 모르겠어요.’ 엄마가 투덜거렸어요. ‘난 이것은 어린아이들만 걸리는 것인줄 알았는데. 어쩌면 나 어렸을 때 수두를 안 했나봐요.’
‘Well I can’t remember getting it when I was a boy,’ said Dad, ‘I wonder if I did.’
‘나도 어렸을 때 한 기억이 없는걸.’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘내가 했는지 궁금하네.’

Dad had to do all the work in the house. There was a lot of washing to do so Dad loaded the washing machine and did two loads of washing.

As it was a nice day, he put the washing out. ‘It should soon dry.’ He said to himself. ‘and if I’m lucky I can put most of it away without ironing it.’ Dad didn’t like ironing.
날씨가 좋아서 아빠는 빨래를 널었어요. ‘곧 마르겠군.’ 아빠가 혼자 말했어요. ‘그리고 운이 좋다면 다림질을 하지 않아도 되겠는걸.’ 아빠는 다림질을 좋아하지 않았어요.

Next, Dad planned what meals he’d make for the next few days. There didn’t seem to be a lot of food in the house so he went seemed in such a hurry.
다음으로, 아빠는 다음 몇 일간 만들 음식을 계획했어요. 집에 별로 음식이 없는 것 같아서 아빠는 시장에 갔어요.
The supermarket was very busy and everyone seemed in such a hurry. Dad thought about looking after the family all the time.
슈퍼마켓은 사람이 많았고, 다들 서두는 듯 했어요. 아빠는 가족을 돌보는 것을 항상 생각했어요.
‘What a job!’ said Dad. ‘I wouldn’t like to do it by myself all the time.’
‘이것도 힘든 일이군.’ 아빠가 말했어요. ‘혼자 항상 이 일을 하고 싶지는 않아.’

Dad did really good job looking after Kipper, Biff, Chip and Mum. He made them nice meals and he made sure they all had everything they wanted. In particular, he made sure that nobody scratched those spots.
아빠는 Kipper, Biff, Chip, 엄마를 돌보는 일을 매우 잘했어요. 아빠는 그들에게 맛있는 식사를 만들어주고, 모두가 원하는 것을 가지도록 했어요.
In fact he looked after the family so well that soon, everyone got better, and everyone was able to get up.
특히, 아빠는 모두가 열꽃을 긁지 않도록 했어요. 사실, 아빠가 모두를 너무나도 잘 돌봐서 모두 빨리 나았고, 일어날 수 있게 되었어요.
‘I think we should say thank you to Dad for looking after us so well,’ said Mum.
‘내 생각엔 우리 모두 아빠에게 잘 돌봐준 것에 대해 고맙다고 해야할 것 같아.’ 엄마가 말했어요.
‘Let’s find him and tell him so.’
‘아빠를 찾아서 그렇게 말하자.’
Dad was sitting in a chair. Everyone looked at him.
아빠는 의자에 앉아 있었어요. 모두들 아빠를 봤어요.
‘Oh no!’ said Mum.
‘오, 안돼.’ 엄마가 말했어요.

Dad had spots. Poor old Dad. Still, he didn’t mind. Everyone looked after him. Mum brought him a nice meal.

Kipper found him a jigsaw puzzle, Biff read him a story, and Floppy gave him his special bone.
Kipper는 아빠에게 퍼즐을 가져다 주었고, Biff는 아빠에게 이야기를 읽어주었어요. Floppy는 아빠에게 특별한 뼈다귀를 가져다 주었답니다.
As for Chip, he gave Dad some advice, ‘Don’t scratch those spots,’ he said.
