It was holiday time. On some days in the holiday, Mum stayed at home to look after the children. On some days, Dad stayed at home. Today it was Mum.
But Biff, Chip and Kipper were surprised when a man arrived at the house and two children came.
The children were called Peter and Jane. They were a little bit older than Kipper and a little bit younger than Biff and Chip.
' It's very kind of you to look after Peter and Jane,' said the man.' I'll pick them up sometime after five o'clock, as soon as my meeting is over.'
' Mum might have told us we were having two children to look after,' whispered Chip.

' Well,' said Mum to Biff and Chip. ' Why don't you go off and get to know Peter and Jane. Maybe you could paly a game. How about Connect Four, Or Haunted House? '
Biff and Chip took Peter and Jane into the living room.
'Do you want to paly a game?'asked Biff.
But Peter and Jane began to chase round the room. They climbed on the furniture then they jumped on the sofa. ' This is a good game,'said Peter. 'The table makes a great launch pad,and the sofa is perfect for the bouncy landing.'

Biff and Chip suggested they all go upstairs to look at some books in their bedroom.
Peter and Jane raced upstairs and ran into Mum and Dad's bedroom.
They climbed up the curtains and they jumped on the bed.
' We like your house,' said Jane. 'It's a great place to play.'
' Wheee!' yelled Peter. ' This bed is a brilliant springboard.'
Biff,Chip and Kipper were astonished. They'd never met children like Peter and Jane.

The children decided to take Peter and Jane out into the garden.
' They can't do much damage out there,' whispered Chip.
'They can charge about without breaking anything.'
But out in the garden, Peter and Jane went even more wild.
They climbed up the tree, and it bent and swayed so that Kipper thought it would snap. They jumped on the flowers that Mum had planted.
'We've got to do something,'said Biff.

Chip got the football out and for a little while all the children tried playing together in the front garden. But it wasn't long before Jane wanted to go climbing again- this time up the drainpipe.
Peter seemed to think the idea behind football was to kick the ball,or head the ball,as hard as possible in any direction.
Mum didn't know how wild and uncotrolled Peter and Jane were. She came out to see how they were all getting on just as Peter headed the football straight at the living-room window.
'Oh No!' said Mum.
It was then that Biff had an idea.

Biff's idea was to take Peter and Jane to Ortleigh Park. There was a really good children's paly area there.
' Let's take a picnic,' suggested Mum. ' Peter and Jane can run around to their hearts' content.'
So that's what they did. Peter and Jane love Ortleigh Park.
In the paly area, they climbed up the ladder and they jumped off the log.
They didn't seem to get tired.
' It wears me out just watching them,' said Mum.

' I'm glad they don't go to our school,' said Chip. ' What do you think would happen if they did? '
'Even Mrs May would find them hard work,' said Biff.

It's time for the picnic. Peter and Jane didn't seem to want to stop and eat for long. They raced off and began to play with the football before the picnic was over.
' They're not very polite,' said Biff. ' They might at least sit and eat something with us.'
Mum thought she wouldn't try and make Peter and Jane sit quitely on the rug. After all, everyone was happy.
She looked at Peter and Jane. 'What good children!' aid Mum.
That's not what she said when Peter headed the ball straight in to the picnic.
