* Cover/Introduction (겉표지/소개)
Ugh! What a horrid looking thing. It’s a creepy-crawly. Is it real or is it just a joke? What is it, do you know? On the box it says ‘The Joke Shop’. What sort of joke can you play with a creepy-crawly?
Would you like a creepy-crawly like this? If you had one, what would you do with it?
악! 징그러운 것이네요. 기어다니는 벌레예요. 진짜인가요, 아니면 장난감인가요? 무엇인지 아나요? 상자에 ‘장난감가게’라고 써있네요. 이 기어다니는 벌레랑 무슨 장난을 하며 놀 수 있을까요?
이런 기어다니는 벌레를 갖고 싶나요? 갖고 있다면 무엇을 할 것인가요?

Wilma had a creepy-crawly. She got it when she went to the joke shop. It was horrid-looking thing.
Wilma는 기는 벌레를 가지고 있어요. 장난감가게에서 산 것이예요. 징그럽게 생겼어요.
It looked like a giant bug. It had a body made of squashy plastic.
큰 곤충같이 생겼어요. 몸은 말랑한 플라스틱으로 만들어졌어요.
When you held it, it felt cold and yukky. It had a fat, green body, Floppy little legs, wobbly feelers and its eyes were on stalks. Even its tail was all curled up and creepy-looking.
들고 있으면 차갑고 느낌이 별로 좋지 않아요. 뚱뚱한 초록색 몸과 축 쳐진 작은 다리, 늘어진 더듬이와 끝에 눈이 달려있어요. 꼬리까지 말려있어 벌레같이 보였어요.
‘Ugh!’ said Wilf. ‘It looks gross!’ But as he said it he laughed.
‘악!’ Wilf가 말했어요. ‘징그러워.’ 그러나 말하고는 웃었어요.
He liked the creepy-crawly as much as Wilma really, even though it gave him the creeps.
쫌 무서웠지만 그도 이 벌레를 Wilma만큼이나 좋아했거든요.
Wilma wanted to play a joke with the creepy-crawly, so she put it in the bath.
Wilma는 벌레로 장난을 하고 싶어서 이것을 욕조에 넣었어요.

The children put the creepy-crawly down by the pulg-hole. Then Wilma called Dad. She made her voice sound urgent and frightened.
아이들은 벌레를 욕조 구멍 옆에 놓았어요. 그때 Wilma가 아빠를 불렀어요. 아주 급하고 무서운듯한 목소리로요.
‘Dad! Dad,’ called Wilma. “Come quicky. Come at once! It’s urgent! There’s something terrible up here.’
‘아빠, 아빠’ Wilma가 외쳤어요. ‘빨리 와보세요. 빨리요! 급해요.! 아주 무서운게 여기 있어요.’
Dad was downstairs reading his paper. When he heard all the fuss and commotion, he came running upstairs, two steps at a time.
아빠는 아래층에서 신문을 읽고 계셨어요. 소동이 일어나자 아빠는 한번에 두 계단씩 윗층으로 뛰어올라갔어요.
‘What ever is the matter?’ asked Dad.
‘무슨 일이니?’ 아빠가 물었어요.
‘Look,’ said Wilma, pointing at the creepy-crawly. ‘There’s something terrible in the bath.’
‘보세요.’ Wilma가 벌레를 가리키며 말했어요. ‘아주 무서운 것이 욕조 안에 있어요.’
‘Get it out,’ said Wilf.
‘꺼내세요.’ Wilf가 말했어요.

It didn’t take Dad long to see that the creepy-crawly was made of plastic, but he enjoyed a good joke so he joined in the fun.
벌레가 플라스틱으로 만들어졌다는 것을 아빠가 알아차리는데까지는 오래 걸리지 않았어요. 아빠도 이 장난을 즐거워하며 함께 하기로 했어요.
He put his hands up to his face and pretended to be horrified by the creepy-crawly.
아빠는 두 손으로 얼굴을 가리고 벌레가 매우 무서운 듯 행동했어요.
‘Do something,’ said Wilma, who was enjoying Dad’s performance.
'어떻게 좀 해보세요.' Wilma가 그런 아빠의 연기를 즐거워하며 말했어요.
‘Ugh! I couldn’t,’ said Dad.
'악! 난 못해.‘ 아빠가 말했어요.
Just at the moment Wilf called Mum, and Mum came running upstairs to see what all the fuss and commotion was about.
그 때 Wilma가 엄마를 불렀어요. 엄마는 무슨 일로 소란이 일어났는지 보러 윗층으로 올라오셨어요.
As Mum came into the bathroom Dad was doing his best to look really terrified of the creepy-crawly.
엄마가 화장실로 들어오자 아빠는 벌레를 보고 무서워하는 것처럼 보이도록 최선을 다했어요.

‘Look,’ said Wilf, pointing towards the plug-hole. ‘There’s a creepy-crawly in the bath.’
'보세요.‘ Wilf가 욕조 구멍을 가리키며 말했어요. ’욕조에 벌레가 있어요.‘
Mum didn’t think that Wilf and Wilma were playing a trick. When she saw the creepy-crawly, it gave her quiet a shock.
엄마는 Wilf와 Wilma가 장난을 치는 것이라 생각하지 못했어요. 엄마가 벌레를 봤을 때 꽤 놀랐어요.
‘Get it out,’ said Wilf.
‘꺼내세요.’ Wilf가 말했어요.
Of course, Mum soon saw that the creepy-crawly was just plastic. But she enjoyed a good joke and joined in the fun, too.
당연히, 곧 엄마도 벌레가 플라스틱이라는 것을 알았어요. 그러나 엄마도 이 장난을 즐거워하며 함께 하기로 했어요.
She put her hands up and pretended to be horrified by the creepy-crawly. ‘Ugh! I couldn’t.’ said Mum.
엄마도 손을 올리고 벌레가 무서운 듯 행동했어요. ‘악! 난 못해.’ 엄마가 말했어요.

Everyone had a good laugh over the creepy-crawly. Wilf and Wilma enjoyed the joke so much they decided to play it on Chip when he came round to their house.
모두들 벌레를 보며 크게 웃었어요. Wilf와 Wilma는 이 장난이 너무나도 즐거워 놀러온 Chip에게도 하기로 했어요.
Wilma called Chip. ‘Quickly, come up here,’ shouted Wilma from upstairs. ‘Come up and see what’s in the bathroom.’
Wilma가 Chip을 불렀어요. ‘어서 이리로 와봐.’ Wilma가 윗층에서 소리쳤어요. ‘와서 화장실에 무엇이 있나 봐봐.’
Chip was quite surprised to see not only Wilf and Wilma, but their Mum and Dad in the bathroom too.
Chip은 Wilf와 Wilma뿐만 아니라 그들의 엄마. 아빠까지 화장실에 있는 것을 보고 좀 놀랐어요.
The creepy-crawly gave him quite a shock when he was it in the bath.
화장실에서 벌레를 보고 꽤 놀랐답니다.
‘It gives us the creeps. We don’t know how it got there,’ said Wilma’s Mum.
‘우리 모두 너무 무서워. 우리 모두 그게 어떻게 여기 왔는지 모르겠어.’ Wilma의 엄마가 말했어요.
‘Get it out,’ said WIlf.
‘좀 꺼내주렴.’ Wilf가 말했어요.

Of course Chip realized that the creepy-crawly was made of plastic, but he enjoyed a good joke, so he put up his hands and pretended to be terrified of the creepy-crawly.
당연히 Chip도 벌레가 플라스틱으로 만들어졌다는 것을 알았지만 장난을 즐거워했고 손을 올리고 무서워하는 흉내를 냈어요.
‘Ugh! I couldn’t,’ said Chip.
‘악! 난 못해.’ Chip이 말했어요.
He said this just as Wilf called Biff to see the creepy-crawly, too.
그는 Wilf가 Biff를 불러 벌레를 보게 했을 때도 똑같이 했답니다.
Chip was still looking in the bath. ‘Oh my goodness!’ said Chip.
Chip은 여전히 욕조 안을 봤어요. ‘오, 세상에.’ Chip이 말했어요.
‘It’s fearsome. It’s terrifying. It’s an alien bug from another planet, and it’s in the bath!’
‘너무 두려워. 무서워. 저건 다른 별에서 온 외계인 벌레고 짐 화장실에 있어.’

‘Get it out,’ said Wilma.
'꺼내.‘ Wilma가 말했어요.
The creepy-crawly gave Biff quite a shecok when she saw it in the bath. But she soon realized that it was only a joke and that it was made of plastic.
벌레가 욕조에 있는 것을 보고 Biff는 꽤 놀랐어요. 그렇지만 곧 그것이 플라스틱으로 만들어졌고 장난이라는 것을 알았어요.
Biff enjoyed a joke, so she pretended to be really scared of the creepy-crawly.
Biff도 장난을 즐기며 벌레를 보고 정말 놀란 듯 가장했어요.
She put up her hands and made her whole body shake.
손을 올리고 온 몸이 떨리게 했어요.
‘ugh! I couldn’t,’ said Biff. ‘I’ve never seen such a monster of a bug in all my life.’
‘악! 난 못해.’ Biff가 말했어요. ‘내 생애 이렇게 큰 벌레는 처음이야.’

Well, the joke was going so weel that everyone wanted to try it once more.
장난이 너무나 재밌어서 더 하고싶어 했어요.
‘Let’s get Kipper,’ said Chip. ‘He’s always applying little tricks on people.’
‘Kipper에게 하자.’ Chip이 말했어요. ‘걔는 항상 사람들한테 작은 속임수를 하자나.’
‘But he might be really frightened of the creepy-crawly,’ said Wilma.
‘하지만 벌레를 보고는 정말 놀랄지도 몰라.’ Wilma가 말했어요.
‘The creepy-crawly’s more likely to be frightened of him.’ Laughed Biff. So everyone called Kipper.
‘벌레가 걔를 보고 더 놀랄걸.’ Biff가 웃으며 말했어요. 그래서 모두가 Kipper를 불렀답니다.
Wilf pointed to the creepy-crawly in the bath. ‘Look it’s something that we can’t bear to do. Will you do it? Get it out,’ said Wilf.
Wilf는 욕조 속의 벌레를 가리켰어요. ‘봐, 우리가 어떻게 할 수가 없어. 네가 대신 해줄래? 꺼내줘.’ Wilf가 말했어요.

‘Easy!’ said Kipper.
'쉽네.‘ Kipper가 말했어요.
He bent down and picked up the creepy-crawly, just as if it was nothing at all.
그는 구부려 아무렇지도 않게 벌레를 꺼냈어요.
Then he held it out to everyone.
그리고는 모두를 향해 들어 보였어요.
‘Ugh!’ said everyone all at once. They all looked as frightened as they could.
‘악!’ 모두가 동시에 소리쳤어요. 모두 할 수 있는 한 최대 놀란 척 했어요.
Then, everyone laughed. Kipper thought it was a brilliant joke, even though he hadn’t behaved like everyone else.
그리고는 모두 웃었어요. Kipper는 비록 그가 다른 사람들과 다른 반응을 보였지만 이것이 아주 훌륭한 장난이라고 생각했어요.
In fact, he enjoyed himself so much, he asked if he could borrow the creepy-crawly to play the joke all over again on his Mum and Dad.
사실, 그는 이 장난을 너무나도 즐겨 엄마, 아빠에게도 할 수 있도록 빌려줄 수 있는지 물었어요.
