Floppy is often getting himself into trouble, but in this story he does something that makes everyone really proud of him. And as you can see from his picture on the cover, he felt pretty pleased with himself.

Biff, Chip, Kipper were playing with their friends on the patch of ground near their house when a fire engine went by.
Biff, Chip, Kipper°¡ Ä£±¸µé°ú Áý ±Ùó °øÅÍ¿¡¼­ ³î°í ÀÖÀ» ¶§ ¼Ò¹æÂ÷°¡ Áö³ª°¬¾î¿ä.

The fire engine was sounding its siren and it went past at a tremendous speed. The children were quite started. They had never seen a fire engine racing to a fire before.

¡®I wonder where the fire is,¡¯ said Chip. ¡®It can¡¯t be very far away or the fire engine would have gone alone the main road.¡¯

There was a fire just down the road. Biff saw smoke first.

¡®I can see smoke,¡¯ said Biff, ¡®and it¡¯s not far away.¡¯

Everyone ran to see what was happening. The neighbours rushed out of their houses and gardens and ran along the road.

¡®Can we come , too?¡¯ called Chip.

¡®Yes,¡¯ shouted a neighbour, ¡®but stay close to me.¡¯

¡®Get back,¡¯ said a fireman as everyone reached the place where the fire was.

A barn was on fire. It was an old barn and it hadn¡¯t been used for a long time.

The fireman began to move at ten times the speed of normal people. They pushed up the shutters on the side of the fire engine and pulled out a hose.

¡®Where do they get the water from?¡¯ asked Kipper.

¡®They carry some in big tanks on the fire engine,¡¯ said Chip. ¡®I expect they will use that.¡¯

Suddenly al ittle dog ran to the barn. She went to a window and she barked and barked.

¡®Look at the little dog barking at the window,¡¯ said Biff. ¡®I wonder why she¡¯s behaving like that.¡¯
¡®Ã¢¹®¿¡¼­ ¢¾î´ë´Â Àú °³Á» ºÁ.¡¯ Biff°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®Àú °³°¡ ¿Ö Àú·¯´ÂÁö ¸ð¸£°Ú´Â°É.¡¯

¡®I don¡¯t know,¡¯ said Chip. ¡®But there¡¯s something wrong.¡¯

Suddenly Floppy ran to the barn. He didn¡¯t stop. With one huge leap, he jumped in the window.

His back feet scrambled and scrabbled against the window sill for a second, then he jumped down inside the barn.

¡®Floppy! Come back!¡¯ yelled the children. They ran forward but the fireman stopped them and told them to go back.

¡®But our dog¡¯s gone inside,¡¯ said Kipper. ¡®he jumped in through that window.¡¯

¡®I can¡¯t think why he would do a stupid thing like that,¡¯ sid Biff.

¡®Floppy¸¦ ±¸ÇØÁÖ¼¼¿ä.¡¯ ChipÀÌ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®Á¦¹ß ±×¸¦ ±¸ÇØÁÖ¼¼¿ä. ¿ø·¡´Â Àú·¸°Ô ÀÌ»óÇÑ ÇൿÀ» ÇÏÁö ¾Ê¾Æ¿ä.¡¯

¡®Don¡¯t worry ¡® said the fireman. ¡®Look, the hoses are working now so the fire will soon be out. We¡¯ll get your dog out safe and sound, you¡¯ll see.¡¯

Meanwhile, the fireman pushed the door down and the children held their breath, waiting to see if Floppy was all right.

For a few seconds it was hard to see anything because there was a lot of smoke, but then Floppy ran out of the barn. He had some puppies with him.

They were quite young puppies and they looked just like the little dog that Biff was holding in her arms.

¡®So that¡¯s why Floppy went into the fire,¡¯ gasped Kipper. ¡®He went to rescue those little puppies.¡¯
¡®Floppy°¡ ºÒ±æ·Î ¶Ù¾îµç ÀÌÀ¯°¡ ¹Ù·Î ÀÌ°ÍÀ̱¸³ª.¡¯ Kipper°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®Àú ÀÛÀº °­¾ÆÁöµéÀ» ±¸ÇÏ·¯ °£°ÍÀÌ¿´¾î.¡¯

The little dog wriggled in Biff¡¯s arms and began to bark excitedly.
BiffÀÇ ÆÈ¿¡ ÀÖ´ø °­¾ÆÁöµµ ²ÞƲ°Å¸®´õ´Ï, ½Å³ª°Ô ¢±â ½ÃÀÛÇß¾î¿ä.

¡®Put her down, Biff,¡¯ said Chip. ¡®She wants to see her puppies to make sure they¡¯re all right.¡¯

And of course, the puppies were all right. They followed Floppy out into the sunshine as if being rescued from a burning barn was something that happened every day of the week.

Everyone looked at Floppy and cheered. The children crowded round him, and gave him lots of hugs and pats.

The little white dog and her puppies thought Floppy was a hero, too.l

Floppy sat and wagged his tail. He looked really pleased with himself.

For the next few days everyone made a fuss of Floppy and he spent a lot of time with the little white dog and her puppies.

There was a story about Floppy¡¯s brave rescue in the newspaper. It had a headline which said, ¡®What a hero!¡¯
½Å¹®¿¡ FloppyÀÇ ¿ë°¨ÇÑ ±¸Ãâ¿¡ °üÇÑ À̾߱⵵ ½Ç·È¾î¿ä. ¡®´ë´ÜÇÑ ¿µ¿õ¡¯À̶õ Á¦¸ñµµ ½Ç·È¾î¿ä.

As for the children, they couldn¡¯t help wondering why the little white dog looked so fondly at Floppy, and how Floppy knew the little puppies were in the barn in the first place.

But perhaps we¡¯d better not ask too many questions about that!
