Mum and the twins wondered if Floppy would go for a swim to fetch a stick if they threw one in the water.

One windy afternoon, Biff and Chip went with Mum when she took Floppy out for his daily walk.
¾î´À ¹Ù¶÷ ºÎ´Â ³¯, ¾ö¸¶°¡ Ç÷ÎÇǸ¦ »êÃ¥ ½ÃÅ°·¯ ³ª°¥ ¶§ ºñÇÁ¿Í Ĩµµ ÇÔ²² ³ª°¬´ä´Ï´Ù.

They went to the park which wasn¡¯t very far away.
±×µéÀº ±×¸® ¸ÖÁö ¾ÊÀº °ø¿øÀ¸·Î °¬¾î¿ä.

The children liked going to the park.
¾ÆÀ̵éÀº °ø¿ø¿¡ °¡´Â°É ÁÁ¾ÆÇϰŵç¿ä.

It had a little lake in it.
°Å±â¿£ ÀÛÀº È£¼ö°¡ ÀÖ¾ú¾î¿ä.

Sometimes there were ducks on the lake, but on this particular afternoon, there was a lady with two dogs who were jumping into the water to fetch sticks.
¶§¶§·Î È£¼ö À§¿£ ¿À¸®µéÀÌ ÀÖ¾ú¾î¿ä, ±Ùµ¥ ±×³¯ ¿ÀÈÄ¿£, ¸·´ë±â¸¦ ÀâÀ¸·¯ ¹° ¼ÓÀ¸·Î ¶Ù¾îµå´Â µÎ ¸¶¸®ÀÇ °³¸¦ µ¥¸®°í ÀÖ´Â ÇÑ ¾Æ°¡¾¾°¡ ÀÖ¾ú´ä´Ï´Ù.

¡®Look at those dogs swimming after sticks,¡¯ said Biff.
¡®¸·´ë±â¸¦ ÂÑ¾Æ ¼ö¿µÇÏ´Â Àú °³µé Á» ºÁ,¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

¡®I didn¡¯t know dogs could swim so well.¡¯
¡®³­ °³µéÀÌ ¼ö¿µÀ» Àú·¸°Ô ÀßÇÏ´ÂÁö ¹Ìó ¸ô¶ú¾î.¡¯

¡®Oh yes,¡¯ said Mum. ¡®Dogs are good swimmers. Some dogs have been known to rescue people and save them from drowning.¡¯
¡®¿À ±×·¡, °³µéÀº ¼ö¿µÀ» ÀßÇÏÁö, ¾î¶² °³µéÀº ¹°¿¡ ºüÁø »ç¶÷À» ±¸Çϱ⵵ ÇÑ´Ü´Ù.¡¯ ¾ö¸¶°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

¡®Floppy likes fetching things,¡¯ said Biff. ¡®He loves chasing after balls in the garden. Do you think he would jump in the lake and fetch a stick?¡¯
¡®Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ¹°°ÇÀ» Àâ¾Æ¿À´Â °É ÁÁ¾ÆÇØ,¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®±×´Â ¸¶´ç¿¡¼­ °øÀ» ÂѾƴٴϴ °É ÁÁ¾ÆÇÏÁö. ¸·´ë±â¸¦ ÀâÀ¸·¯ Ç÷ÎÇÇ°¡ ¹° ¼ÓÀ¸·Î ¶Ù¾îµéÀ»±î?¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

¡®I don¡¯t know,¡¯ said Mum. ¡®I¡¯ve never seen him swim. I wonder if he will?¡¯
¡®±Û½ê¡¦ ³­ Ç÷ÎÇÇ°¡ ¼ö¿µÇÏ´Â°É º» ÀûÀÌ ¾ø¾î. ±×°¡ ¼ö¿µÇÒÁö ±Ã±ÝÇѵ¥?¡¯ ¾ö¸¶°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

She picked up the stick and threw it into the lake.
±×³à´Â ¸·´ë±â¸¦ Çϳª Áý¾î µé¾î È£¼ö·Î ´øÁ³¾î¿ä.

¡®fetch it, Floppy!¡¯ she called. ¡®Go on, fetch!¡¯
¡®±×°ÍÀ» Àâ¾Æ¿Í, Ç÷ÎÇÇ!¡¯ ±×³à°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä. ¡®ÀÚ, Àâ¾Æ¿Í!¡¯

Floppy didn¡¯t move.
Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ¿òÁ÷ÀÌÁö ¾Ê¾ÒÁÒ.

He didn¡¯t move when Biff tried throwing a stick.
±×´Â ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸·´ë±â¸¦ ´øÁö´Â ½Ã´¿À» Çصµ ¿òÁ÷ÀÌÁö ¾Ê¾Ò´ä´Ï´Ù.

¡®I¡¯d have thought that seeing those two dogs in the water would have given him the idea,¡¯ said Chip.
¡®³­ ¹°¿¡ ÀÖ´Â ±× µÎ ¸®ÀÇ °³¸¦ º¸´Â °ÍÀÌ Ç÷ÎÇǵµ ÇÏ°í ½ÍÀ»°Å¶ó°í »ý°¢Çߴµ¥¡¯Ä¨ÀÌ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

They all tried throwing more sticks but Floppy simply wouldn¡¯t move.
±×µéÀº ´õ ¸¹Àº ¸·´ë±â¸¦ ´øÁ® º¸¾ÒÀ¸³ª Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ²Þ½µµ ¾ÈÇß¾î¿ä.

¡®At this rate there will be enough sticks in the water to build a bridge,¡¯ laughed Mum.

¡®I can¡¯t believe Floppy won¡¯t swim for us,¡¯ said Biff.
¡®Ç÷ÎÇÇ°¡ ¿ì¸®¸¦ À§ÇØ ¼ö¿µÀ» ¾È ÇÑ´Ù´Â °Ô ¹Ï¾îÁöÁö ¾Ê¾Æ.¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

She found one more stick, and showed it to Floppy.
±×³à´Â ¸·´ë±â¸¦ Çϳª ´õ ã¾Æ ±×°ÍÀ» Ç÷ÎÇÇ¿¡°Ô º¸¿©ÁÖ¾ú¾î¿ä.

But just as she threw it, a gust of wind blew her hat off and it went flying off into the lake.
±×·¯³ª ±×³à°¡ ±×°ÍÀ» ´øÁöÀÚ ¸¶ÀÚ, °©Àڱ⠹ٶ÷ÀÌ ºÒ¾î ±×³àÀÇ ¸ðÀÚ¸¦ ¹þ°Ü ¹ö·È°í, ¸ðÀڴ ȣ¼ö·Î ³¯¾Æ°¡ ¹ö·È´ä´Ï´Ù.

¡®Oh no!¡¯ Biff yelled. ¡®My hat!,¡¯ The hat sailed through the air, spinning round and round.
¡®¾Ñ ¾ÈµÅ! ³» ¸ðÀÚ!¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¼Ò¸®Áú·¶¾î¿ä. ¸ðÀÚ´Â °øÁß¿¡ ¶ß´õ´Ï ¹ð±Û¹ð±Û µ¹¾Ò´ä´Ï´Ù.

Then it landed in the lake where it floated among all the sticks that Biff, Chip and Mum had thrown in.
±×¸®°í ±×°ÍÀº ºñÇÁ¿Í Ĩ, ¾ö¸¶°¡ ´øÁø ¸·´ë±âµéÀÌ µÕµÕ ¶°Àִ ȣ¼ö¿¡ Âø·úÇßÁö ¹¹¿¡¿ä!

¡®Oh dear,¡¯ wailed Biff. ¡®The wind is blowing it out farther and farther. We¡¯ll never be able to reach it, and it was my favorite hat, too.¡¯
¡®¿À Àú·±, ¹Ù¶÷ÀÌ Àú°ÍÀ» ´õ ¸Ö¸® º¸³»¹ö¸±²¨¾ß. ¿ì¸° °áÄÚ Àú°É ÀâÀ» ¼ö ¾øÀ»²¨¾ß. ³»°¡ Á¦ÀÏ ÁÁ¾ÆÇÏ´Â ¸ðÀÚ¿´´Âµ¥.¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¼Ò¸® ³»¾î ¿ï¾ú¾î¿ä.

Suddenly Floppy ran towards the lake.
°©ÀÚ±â Ç÷ÎÇÇ°¡ È£¼ö ¾ÕÀ¸·Î ¶Ù¾î°¬¾î¿ä!

With an enormous bound he sprang into the water, and swam towards Biff¡¯s hat.
Å©°Ô µµ¾àÇÏ´õ´Ï ¹° ¼ÓÀ¸·Î ¶Ù¾îµé¾ú°í, ºñÇÁÀÇ ¸ðÀÚ°¡ ÀÖ´Â °÷À¸·Î ¼ö¿µÇØ °¬¾î¿ä.

¡®Wow!¡¯ said Biff. ¡®Who said Floppy wouldn¡¯t go for a swim? What a good dog!¡¯
¡®¿ì¿Í! ´©°¡ Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ¼ö¿µÀ» ¸øÇҰŶó°í Çß¾î? Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â Á¤¸» ÈǸ¢ÇØ!!¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

¡®it¡¯s Floppy to the rescue, all right,¡¯ said Chip. ¡®Look he¡¯s rescued Biff¡¯s hat,¡¯ said Chip.
¡®Ç÷ÎÇÇ°¡ ±×°ÍÀ» ±¸ÇѴٴϱî, ÁÁ¾Ò¾î,¡¯¡®Ç÷ÎÇÇ°¡ ºñÇÁÀÇ ¸ðÀÚ¸¦ ±¸ÇÏ´Â °É ºÁºÁ!¡¯ ĨÀÌ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

Floppy looked really pleased with himself as he came out of the water.
Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ¹°¿¡¼­ ³ª¿Ã ¶§ Á¤¸» Áñ°Å¿ö º¸¿´¾î¿ä.

He carried Biff¡¯s hat very carefully in his jaws.
±×´Â ±×ÀÇ ÀÔÀ¸·Î ºñÇÁÀÇ ¸ðÀÚ¸¦ Á¶½É½º·´°Ô °¡Á®¿Ô¾î¿ä.

¡®Thank you, Floppy,¡¯ said Biff, taking the hat.
¡®°í¸¿´Ù, Ç÷ÎÇÇ,¡¯ ¸ðÀÚ¸¦ ¹ÞÀ¸¸ç ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

¡®What a clever dog you are.¡¯
¡®Âü ¿µ¸®Çϱ¸³ª!.¡¯

¡®Hooray!¡¯ said chip. ¡®I think Floppy is a sensible dog. He won¡¯t jump in a cold lake to fetch silly sticks, but when it comes to a proper rescue, he can swim really well.¡¯
¡®¸¸¼¼!! Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ¶È¶ÈÇÑ °³¶ó°í »ý°¢ÇØ. ¸·´ë±â µûÀ§¸¦ Àâ±â À§Çؼ­´Â Â÷°¡¿î È£¼ö¿¡ ¶Ù¾îµéÁö ¾Ê¾Ò´ø °Å¾ß. ±Ùµ¥ Á¤¸» ±¸ÇØ¾ß ÇÒ ¶§°¡ ¿À´Ï±î Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ¼ö¿µÀ» Á¤¸» Àß Çß´Ù±¸!¡¯ ĨÀÌ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

At that moment Floppy shook himself and the water from his coat sprayed all over Biff, Chip and Mum.
±×¶§ Ç÷ÎÇÇ´Â ¸öÀ» Èçµé¾ú°í ±×ÀÇ ÅÐ ¼ÓÀÇ ¹°ÀÌ ºñÇÁ, Ĩ ±×¸®°í ¾ö¸¶¿¡°Ô »ç¹æÀ¸·Î ÆÛÁ³´ä´Ï´Ù.

¡®Hey!¡¯ called Mum. ¡®You¡¯re making us all wet. Stop it Floppy!¡¯
¡®ÀÌ¿Í! ´Ù Á¥¾úÀݾÆ. ±×¸¸ÇØ, Ç÷ÎÇÇ!¡¯

Floppy gave a little bark.
Ç÷ÎÇÇ°¡ »ì¦ ¢¾ú¾î¿ä.

He can¡¯t talk of course but if he could, I wonder what he would have said!
