Cover/Introduction

This enormous box was left behind when a new fridge-freezer was delivered to the house. The box gave Biff and Chip a good idea, so they asked Mum if they could have it. Can you guess what their idea was?

When the new fridge-freezer was delivered, it came in a huge cardboard box.
»õ·Î¿î ³ÃÀå°í°¡ ¹è´ÞµÇ¾úÀ» ¶§, ±×°Ç Ä¿´Ù¶õ ÆÇÁö »óÀÚ¿¡ ´ã°Ü ¿Ô¾î¿ä.

¡®May we have the box, Mum?¡¯ asked Chip.
¡®¿ì¸®°¡ ÀÌ »óÀÚ¸¦ °¡Á®µµ µÇ¿ä, ¾ö¸¶?¡¯ ĨÀÌ ¹°¾ú¾î¿ä.

¡®It would be a great thing to play with. Maybe we could make a little house out of it.¡¯
¡®°®°í ³î±â¿¡ ÁÁÀ» °Í °°¾Æ¿ä. ¾Æ¸¶ ÀÌ°ÍÀ¸·Î ÀÛÀº ÁýÀ» ¸¸µé ¼ö ÀÖÀ» °Å¿¡¿ä.¡¯

¡®It would only be a little house,¡¯ said Biff. ¡®Because I don¡¯t think more than one of us could get inside it.¡¯
¡®ÀÛÀº ÁýÀÌ µÉ²¨¾ß, ¿Ö³ÄÇÏ¸é ±× ¾ÈÀ¸·Î ¿ì¸®µé Áß ÇѸí ÀÌ»ó µé¾î°¥ ¼ö ÀÖÀ» °Í °°Áö ¾Ê°Åµç.¡¯ ºñÇÁ°¡ ¸»Çß¾î¿ä.

The delivery man said he had some even bigger boxes in the back of his van.

¡®Normally, I throw them away,¡¯ he said. ¡®So if you want them, you¡¯re welcome to them.¡¯

Mum helped Biff and Chip make the house.
¾ö¸¶´Â ºñÇÁ¿Í ĨÀÌ ÁýÀ» ¸¸µå´Â°É µµ¿ÍÁÖ¾ú¾î¿ä.

She carefully cut out the windows and door, and she thought of a way to make a sloping roof.
±×³à´Â Á¶½É½º·´°Ô â¹®°ú ´ë¹®À» À߶ú°í, °æ»çÁø ÁöºØÀ» ¸¸µå´Â ¹æ¹ýÀ» »ý°¢ÇØ ³Â¾î¿ä.

Biff and chip painted the little house.
ºñÇÁ¿Í ĨÀº ÀÛÀº Áý¿¡ »öÄ¥À» ÇßÁö¿ä.

Chip painted a brick pattern on the sides, and when he¡¯d finished, Biff had a go at painting tiles on the roof.
ĨÀº º®¸é¿¡ º®µ¹ ¹«´Ì¸¦ ±×·È°í, ±×°¡ ´Ù ±×·ÈÀ» ¶§, ºñÇÁ´Â ±× ´ÙÀ½À¸·Î ÁöºØ¿¡ ŸÀÏ ¸ð¾çÀ» ±×·È¾î¿ä.

¡®It¡¯s brilliant inside,¡¯ said Chip, crawling through the little door.

¡®Maybe we can put some tiny furniture in here.¡¯

¡®Just stay outside while I¡¯m cutting these windows out,¡¯ warned Mum.

When the house was finished everyone thought it looked really good.

There was room inside for Biff, Chip and Kipper, and there was even a little extension for Floppy.
¾È¿¡´Â ºñÇÁ¿Í Ĩ ±×¸®°í Å°ÆÛ¸¦ À§ÇÑ ¹æÀÌ ÀÖ¾ú°í, Ç÷ÎÇǸ¦ À§ÇÑ °ø°£µµ ÀÖ¾úÁö¿ä.

Chip had painted a sign that said ¡®Our house¡¯ and another one that said ¡®Floppy¡¯.

Biff found a little chair and a stool that were small enough to fit inside.

He liked the tall part of the house where everyone could stand up.

It didn¡¯t just rain! It poured!
´Ü¼øÇÑ ºñ°¡ ¾Æ´Ï¿¡¿ä! ¸· Æۺξú¾î¿ä!

At first it was fun inside the little house.
óÀ½¿¡ ÀÛÀº Áý ¾È¿¡ ÀÖ´Â °Ô Àç¹ÌÀÖ¾úÁö¿ä.

The children looked out at the rain and felt very snug and safe.
¾ÆÀ̵éÀº ºñ°¡ ¿À´Â°É ÃÄ´Ùº¸¸é¼­ ¾Æ´ÁÇÏ°í ¾ÈÀüÇÔÀ» ´À²¼Áö¿ä.

But after a while, water began to drip on them, and big wet patches appeared in the walls.
±×·¯³ª Àá½Ã ÈÄ¿¡, ¹°Àº ±×µé¿¡°Ô ¹°¹æ¿ïÀÌ ¶È¶È ¶³¾îÁ³°í, Ä¿´Ù¶þ°Ô Á¥Àº ºÎºÐÀÌ º®¿¡ ³ªÅ¸³ª±â ½ÃÀÛÇß¾î¿ä!

¡®Oh no!¡¯ said Biff. ¡®I don¡¯t think cardboard is waterproof. I think the house is collapsing.¡¯
¡®À¸¾Æ ¾ÈµÅ! ÆÇÁö´Â ¹æ¼ö°¡ µÇÁö ¾Ê¾Æ. ÁýÀÌ ¹«³ÊÁú ²¨¾ß.¡¯

¡®The walls do fell soggy,¡¯ said Chip. ¡®And the roof¡¯s beginning to sag.¡¯
¡®º®ÀÌ È컶 Á¥¾ú¾î, ±×¸®°í ÁöºØÀÌ °¡¶ó¾É±â ½ÃÀÛÇØ.¡¯

Mum ran out into the garden.
¾ö¸¶°¡ ¸¶´çÀ¸·Î ¶Ù¾î³ª¿À¼Ì¾î¿ä.

¡®Oh dear,¡¯ she said. ¡®I should have warned you about the rain. We should have put the little house in the garage until the rain stopped.
¡®¿À Àú·±, ³»°¡ ºñ¸¦ Á¶½ÉÇ϶ó°í ÁÖÀǸ¦ Áá¾î¾ß Çߴµ¥¡¦ ¿ì¸®´Â ºñ°¡ ±×Ä¥ ¶§±îÁö ÀÛÀº ÁýÀ» Â÷°í¿¡ ³Ö¾î µÎ¾î¾ß°Ú´Ù.¡¯

What a pity, after all the work you¡¯ve done to make the house look nice. Now it¡¯s ruined!¡¯

Later that day, Dad found the tent and he put it up in the garden.

¡®Sorry your cardboard house was spoilt by the rain,¡¯ he said, ¡®but you can keep this tent up for as long as you like.
¡®³ÊÈñµéÀÌ ÆÇÁö ÁýÀÌ ºñ ¶§¹®¿¡ ¸Á°¡Á®¼­ À¯°¨À̱¸³ª, ±×·¯³ª ÀÌ ÅÙÆ®´Â ³ÊÈñµéÀÌ ÁÁÀ» ¶§±îÁö ¿À·¡ »ç¿ëÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ¾î.

Luckily the rain won¡¯t spoil it.
