| Kipper Stories (키퍼 이야기) ; Look Out! (조심해!)
* Cover/Introduction (겉표지/소개)
Kipper is looking at a Road Ripper. The Road Ripper doesn’t belong to him. It belongs to a friend of his. Kipper’s friend was on holiday and he had said that Kipper could borrow the Road Ripper while he was away.
‘Wow!’ thought Kipper. ‘I’ve got this all to myself for a whole week.’ He pictured himself whizzing everywhere on the Road Ripper.
키퍼는 Road Ripper(세발 자전거)를 보고 있습니다. 그 세발 자전거는 그의 것이 아니에요. 그건 그의 친구 것이랍니다. 키퍼의 친구는 휴가 중이었고, 그가 없는 동안 키퍼가 그것을 빌려 타도 된다고 말했답니다.

He wheeled the Road Ripper out of the garage and put on his crash helmet.

Mum was cutting the lawn with her new hover-mower.

‘This is a mean machine, Mum,’ called Kipper.
‘이건 대단치 않은 기계네요, 엄마!’ 키퍼는 외쳤어요.
‘Do you mean your Road Ripper or my new hover-mower?’ said Mum.
‘너의 세발 자전거가? 아니면 내 새 잔디 깎는 기계가?’ 엄마는 말했죠.
‘Oh Mum!’ sighed Kipper.
‘오 엄마!’ 키퍼는 한숨을 쉬었어요.
‘Grown-ups make very silly jokes sometimes,’ he thought.
‘어른들은 가끔 엉뚱한 농담을 해.’ 그는 생각했어요.

Kipper sat on the Road Ripper.
키퍼는 세발 자전거에 앉았어요.
He imagined he was a famous Ripper rider waiting for a race to start.
그는 자신이 출발을 기다리고 있는 유명한 세발 자전거 레이서라고 상상했답니다.
‘Brrm…brrm…brrmmmmmmmmmmm…’ he went, as he revved up the Road Ripper.
‘부르… 부르… 부르르르르르르르릉~~’ 그는 세발 자전거의 엔진 속도를 올리며 말했어요.
Then the signal light went green and Kipper, the World Champion Ripper-Rider, zoomed away into an early lead.
그리고 신호등이 초록색으로 변하자 세계의 세발 자전거 챔피언인 키퍼는 선두주자로 나서며 질주했어요.
The crowd went wild with excitement, and the television cameras showed the scene to millions and millions of homes.
관중들은 흥분했고, 텔레비전 카메라는 그 장면을 수 많은 집에 보여주었답니다.
‘Hey!’ called Mum, ‘Mind where you’re pedaling that plastic tricycle, you road hog.
‘얘야!’ 엄마가 외쳤어요. ‘너가 그 장난감 세발 자전거로 어디로 페달을 밟고 있는지 조심해라, 이 거리의 무법자야!’
You’ve just ridden over my border and crushed some of my flowers. And you’ve woken the neighbor’s cat.’
너는 방금 내 경계를 넘어 내 꽃들을 망가트렸어. 그리고 너는 옆집 고양이를 깨웠다구.’
But Kipper couldn’t stop.
그러나 키퍼는 멈추지 않았어요.
He was in the Biggest Race of the Century, so he didn’t have time to worry about one or two crushed flowers, and a sleeping cat.

Kipper whizzed round the side of the house and screeched on to the lawn.
키퍼는 집 주위와 잔디 위를 밟으며 돌아다녔어요.
He thundered past the washing that Dad had hung between the fence and the garage wall and got all tangled up in it.
그는 아빠가 울타리와 차고 별 사이에 걸어놓은 빨랫감 옆을 큰 소리를 내며 지나가면서 그것을 엉키게 해 놓았어요.
The washing dragged behind the Road Ripper, but the World Champion hardly noticed.
빨래는 세발 자전거 뒤에 질질 끌려 다녔어요, 그렇지만 세계 챔피언은 그걸 알지 못했죠.
‘Oh no!’ groaned Dad. ‘I know I should have mended that clothes line and not hung the washing just there.’
‘오 저런!’ 아빠는 신음소리를 냈어요. ‘난 빨랫줄을 고쳤어야 하는건데, 빨래를 바로 저기에 걸어서는 안되는 거였어…’
‘Hey,’ he shouted. ‘Mind that washing, you road hog!’
‘키퍼야!, 빨래를 조심해! 이 거리의 무법자야!!’ 그는 소리쳤어요.
Kipper raced on.
키퍼는 계속 질주했답니다.
The Road Ripper clipped the ropes on Biff’s tent and brought it down.
세발 자전거는 비프의 텐트에 걸린 밧줄을 자르고 텐트를 무너뜨렸죠.
‘Hey!’ called Biff. Mind where you’re pedaling your plastic trike, you menace!’
‘이봐!, 너의 장난감 세발 자전거로 어딜 다니는지 주의하라구! 이 위험인물아!’
‘Brrmm…yeeeeeeoooorrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…’ went the champion as he thundered past.
‘부르릉… 이에에에르릉~~~~~~~~~~~’ 챔피언은 큰 소리를 내며 지나가면서 외쳤답니다.

The Champion knew that he had won the Race.

As Kipper roared up to the back door, he couldn’t stop.
키퍼가 뒷문 쪽으로 굉음을 내며 움직일 때, 그는 멈출 수가 없었죠.
He bumped up the step at high speed and drove straight across the kitchen floor over Chip’s painting.
그는 빠른 속도로 계단에 부딪쳤고, 칩의 그림을 넘어 곧장 부엌 바닥으로 돌진했어요.
He finally crashed into the vegetable rack.
그는 마침내 야채 선반과 부딪치고 말았어요.
‘Hey!’ yelled Chip. ‘you’ve ruined my painting.’
‘이봐! 넌 내 그림을 망쳐놨어’ 칩이 소리쳤어요.
‘Hey!’ called Mum and Dad, ‘You’ve crushed some flowers and brought the washing down.’
‘얘야!, 너는 꽃들을 뭉개고 빨래를 망쳐놨잖니!’ 엄마와 아빠가 외쳤어요.
‘Hey! Shouted Biff. ‘You’ve knocked my tent down. Come and help me put it back up!’
‘야! 넌 내 텐트를 쓰러뜨렸어. 이리 와서 다시 세우도록 도와줘!’ 비프가 외쳤죠.

Kipper was sorry he had caused such chaos with the Road Ripper.

And he began to fix the washing line properly, while Chip and Mum tidied up the kitchen and Kipper helped Biff straighten the tent.

‘I know another thing we can put right,’ said Mum.

‘Well done Kipper,’ called Biff and Chip.
