Floppy wanted a new basket. He had got into a really bad habit of chewing the old one.
Floppy는 새로운 바구니를 원했어요. Floppy는 오래 된 것을 물어뜯는 나쁜 버릇이 있었답니다.
Every morning when Mum or Dad went into the kitchen they found that Floppy had been busy in the night having a good old chew at another part of his basket.
매일 아침 엄마나 아빠가 부엌에 갔을 때, Floppy가 다른 쪽을 물어뜯은 바구니를 발견했답니다.
In the end there was hardly anything left of it.
결국 바구니가 남아 있는 부분이 없을 정도에요. "넌 물건 뜯어버리는데 전문적인 강아지구나..
‘You’d expect a puppy to chew things,’ said Dad, ‘but not a fully-grown dog like Floppy.’
" 아빠가 말했어요. "그렇지만 충분히 자란 성숙한 개는 아니야...."

‘The only way to stop him,’ said Mum. ‘is to get him a basket he can’t chew. I’ll go into town today and see what I can find.’
"Floppy를 막을 수 있는 방법은 오로지..." 엄마가 말했어요."Floppy가 물어뜯을 수 없는 바구니를 사는거야..오늘 시내로 나가서 찾아봐야 겠어..."
‘Can I come too?’ asked Biff. So Mum and Biff went to the market. They took Floppy with them to make sure they got the right sized basket.
"나두 같이 갈까요?" Biff가 말했어요. 그래서 엄마와 Biff는 시장으로 갔어요. 딱 맞는 사이즈를 고르기 위해 Floppy도 데리고 갔지요.
There was a very good stall that sold everything for pets.
애완 동물에 관해 뭐든지 파는 가게가 있었어요.
‘They’re sure to have one he won’t chew through in five minutes,’ said Mum.
"저기엔 분명히 Floppy가 오분이 지나도 물어뜯지 못하는 것이 있을 거야.."엄마가 말했어요..
And she was right. They got a new basket that was made of a hard sort of rubber. It had flowers stamped in the rubber and a nylon-fur cushion.
엄마의 말은 맞았답니다. 엄마와 Biff는 고무종류로 만들어진 새 바구니를 하나 샀어요. 그것은 고무위에 꽃무늬가 찍혀있고 나이론 털의 쿠션이 있었어요.
‘It’s a pity it’s pink,’ said Mum. ‘Brown or green are more like Floppy’s colours, but there is it.’
"유감이지만, 이건 분홍색이구나.." 엄마가 말했어요."녹색이나 갈색이 Floppy에게 어울리지만 여기에는 이런 것이 없구나.."
Floppy seemed quite pleased with the basket. Perhaps he didn’t think Mum and Biff were serious when they said it was for him.
Floppy는 바구니를 보고 매우 즐거워 하는것 같았어요. 아마도 Floppy는 자신을 위해 엄마와 Biff가 이것을 사면서 심각한 것을 생각 못했을거에요...

‘Well, that didn’t take long,’ said Mum as she and Biff went back to the car park.
"글쎄..저건 오래 남아있지 않을거 같구나.." 엄마가 Biff와 주차장으로 가면서 말했어요..
‘I think I need to go somewhere,’ said Biff. ‘Sorry,’
"화장실을 가야겠어요.." Biff가 말했어요.."미안해요"
‘That’s all right,’ said Mum. ‘There’s a ladies on the way. We can go there.’
"괜찮아"엄마가 말했어요. "저기 여자 화장실이 있구나..저기로 가면 되겠다.."그래서 엄마와 Biff는 화장실에 갔어요.
So Mum and Biff went to the toilet. Before they did, Mum wrapped Floppy’s lead round a post.
엄마와 Biff가 가기전에 Floppy의 줄을 우체통에 감쌌어요.
‘Stay Floppy,’ said Biff. ‘He’ll be all right,’ said Mum. ‘He’s a very well-behaved dog when we take him out,’
"여기서 기다려...Floppy" Biff가 말했습니다. "Floppy는 괜찮을거야" 엄마가 말했지요. "우리가 Floppy를 데리고 나왔을 때, 매우 행동바른 강아지였거든..."
‘We won’t be long,’ said Biff to Floppy. ‘Be a good boy while we’re gone.’
"우리 오래걸리지 않을거야..."Biff가 Floppy에게 말했어요. "우리가 다녀오는 동안 얌전해야해.."

Mum was right. Floppy usually was a well-behaved dog when she took him out.
엄마는 옳았어요. Floppy는 보통 엄마가 데리고 나올 때 얌전했지요..
What Mum had forgotten was that Floppy couldn’t resist chasing cats. Of course he had never caught a cat, and he wouldn’t have known what to do if he had caught one, but that wasn’t the point.
엄마는 Floppy가 고양이들을 쫓는 것을 자제할 수 없다는 것을 잊고 있었어요. 물론 Floppy는 고양이를 잡은 적이 결코 없었고, 만약 고양이를 잡는다 해도 어떻게 해야할지를 몰랐어요...하지만 그것은 중요한 것이 아니랍니다.
The fun, as far as Floppy was concerned, was the chase!
Floppy를 생각할 수록, 웃긴것은 추적이라는 것이지요.
Well, it so happened that Floppy saw a cat, and you can guess what he did. He chased it.
자..정말 Floppy가 고양이를 보는 일이 일어났고, FLoppy가 어떻게 할지 상상할 수 있을거에요..고양이를 쫓아갔지요.
Now cats behave differently when they see a dog like Floppy who wants to chase them. Some refuse to be chased.
요즘 고양이들은 자신들을 쫓으려는 Floppy같은 개를 보고 다르게 행동한답니다. 어떤 고양이들은 추적당하는 것을 거부하지요.
They arch their backs and hiss and spit fiercely. Floppy leaves cats like that alone. The ones that frightened and run away from him are the ones he chases.
그들은 등을 아치 모양으로 굽히고 사납게 으르렁 대지요. Floppy는 그런 고양이들은 내버려 둔답니다. Floppy가 쫓는 고양이는 겁을 먹고 도망가는 고양이지요.
You can see what sort of cat this one was!

This was one of the best chases that Floppy had ever had. It was almost as good as the time when he chased a rabbit.
이것은 Floppy가 이제까지 쫓았던 것중에 최고에요. Floppy가 토끼를 쫓았을 때 만큼 좋군요.
In fact, this chase was even more exciting. The cat jumped over the oranges that were carefully stacked on a fruit seller’s cart.
사실 이번 추적이 더 신난답니다. 고양이는 조심스럽게 과일 가게 좌판에 쌓아둔 오렌지를 뛰어넘었어요.
Crash went the oranges as they tumbled into the road. ‘Hey!’ shouted the fruit seller.
쾅 하면서 오렌지가 길가로 굴렀어요. "이봐!! " 과일 가게 주인이 소리쳤어요.
‘Grab that stupid dog, someone. Look what he’s dong to my stall.’
" 저 바보같은 개를 잡아요!!저 개가 내 가게를 어떻게 했는지 보라구!!"

The cat raced on to the next stall. Oh no! It was a stall that sold lots and lots of china.
고양이는 다음 가게로 달려갔어요. Oh! No!!그 곳은 많고 많은 중국 물건을 파는 곳이었어요.
It was stacked with piles and piles of plates. ‘Aaagh!’ screamed the china stall owner as the cat jumped over some plates. Crash went the plates as they fell off the stall.
접시가 차곡차곡 쌓인 곳이었지요. "으악~~!!" 고양이가 접시를 훌쩍 뛰어넘자 중국인 주인이 소리를 질렀어요.. 접시가 쾅 가게 바닥으로 떨어졌어요.
‘Help!’ shouted the stall owner. ‘Grab that stupid dog, someone, before it does any more damage.’
"도와줘요~~!!" 주인이 소리질렀어요. "저 멍청한 개 좀 잡아줘요..더 손해를 입히기 전에~~!!"

The cat chased towards a clothes stall. This was a lot taller than the fruit stall or the china stall.
고양이는 옷가게로 달려갔어요. 그 곳은 과일가게나 차이나 상품점 보다 훨씬 컸어요.
The cat jumped over some clothes, but as it leapt it got caught up in some shirts and a big wolly hat.
고양이는 옷들을 뛰어넘었지요. 그러나 고양이가 훌쩍 뛰었을 때 고양이는 셔츠와 큰 울 모자에 걸려 잡혔어요.
The same thing happened to Floppy except that he ended up inside a jacket.
Floppy도 재킷에 결국 고양이처럼 걸렸지요.
Everyone made a grab for the cat. ‘Got you!’ said a man as he seized it by the tail.
모두 고양이를 잡으려고 했어요. "잡혔어" 남자가 말하면서 꼬리를 집어올렸어요.
It was at that moment that Floppy realized that he would be in terrible trouble if he stayed around, so he ran off quickly.
그 순간 Floppy는 거기에 머물면 자신도 위험한 상황에 놓일 거라는 것을 파악했어요. 그래서 빠르게 도망쳤지요.

Everyone was cross. ‘What a bad dog,’ everyone said.
모두들 막아서며 "나쁜 개 같으니라구" 모두 말했어요.
‘People should look after their dogs and Keep them under control.’
"저런 개들은 잘 관리하고 돌보아야해~!!"
Floppy didn’t realize just how naughty he had been, nor how much damage he had caused.
Floppy는 자신이 얼마나 말썽을 피웠는지, 또 얼마나 많은 피해를 일으켰는지 깨닫지 못했어요.

Floppy arrived back at the lamp post a second or two before Mum and Biff came out of the ladies.
Floppy는 엄마와 Biff가 화장실에서 돌아오기 바로 직전 우체통으로 돌아왔어요.
He sat on the ground, just as he had when Biff and Mum had left him. He looked as if he hadn’t moved.
Floppy는 바닥에 앉았지요. 마치 엄마와 Biff가 Floppy를 두고 갔을 때처럼요. Floppy는 전혀 움직이지 않은 것 처럼 보였어요.
‘What a good dog!’ said Mum. ‘You see, Biff, you needn’t have worried. I told you how well-behaved he is when we’re out.’
"착한개 같으니라구~!!" 엄마가 말했어요.
Mum gave Floppy a pat on the head. At that moment a lady from the market ran up. She was holding some broken china.
"Biff, 이봐...걱정할 필요 없었잖아..우리가 외출할때 Floppy가 얼마나 행동바른지 얘기했잖니.." 엄마는 Floppy의 머리를 툭툭 도닥여 주었어요. 그 때, 가게에서 한 여자가 달려왔어요. 그녀는 깨진 차이나 접시를 들고 있었어요.
‘Excuse me, but is this your dog?’ she said.
"실례지만, 이 개가 당신 개인가요?" 그녀가 물었어요.
