[ESÈ°¿ë]3´Ü°è More Stories Pack A - Kipper the Clown
Cover/Introduction
Kipper looks funny today. He's dressed up as a clown and he's pretending to juggle with four balls. Of course he can't even juggle with two, really. Anyway, this is a story about all the children and what happened when they decided to entertain their mums and dads, and even the neighbour from the house next door.

It was the half term holiday. Wilf and Willma had come round to play with Biff and Chip. ' What shall we do? 'asked Chip. 'Shall we go and watch television?'
At that moment the man from next door called out over the fence, ' Would you like this old mattress? I'm going to throw it away, but maybe you'd like it to bounce on.'
'Thanks,' said Biff. 'It will make a really good crash mat.
Wilma and I can practise gymnastics.'
'This mattress gives me an idea,' said Wilf. 'Let's put on a circus. We can have clowns, and stunts and... and ...'
'Biff and I can do our gymnastics,' said Wilma.
'And we can ask our mums and dads,' said Chip. ' If we charge them money, we can give it to the Children's Appeal.'
So the children put on a circus. They practised all week.
Wilma's mum helped them to make costumes, and they made posters and programmes. At last the circus was ready.

Wilma's Mum had made Kipper a really good clown's costume out of a pair of Dad's old pyjamas. The trouble was that Biff and Chip and Wilf and Wilma had been so busy all week that they hadn't paid much attention to Kipper.
'You can be the clown,' they told him, ' and you can do a little act at the begining .'
The circus started. Wilf was the ringmaster because the circus had been his idea in the first place. ' Ladies and Gentlemem....' he called. ' We present Mr Kipps and his dog Flopperoooo!'
And so Kipper was a clown but he didn't quite know what clowns do and he hadn't practised like the others. He pretended to juggle with some balls and he did a funny sort of dance. But Floppy became very excited when the grown-ups began to laugh and cheer. He began to growl and suddenly he took Kipper's costume in his teeth.Floppy pulled his leg.
Everyone thought this was very funny, but Kipper was upset.
'Silly Flopperoo,' he said.'He spoilt my act.'

Chip was a strong-man. He had spent a long time getting his act ready. He called himself Chippo the Strong Man. He had stuffed out his tee-shirt with bulging muscles made out of mum's old tights and he had made himself some weights out of black card, and out of balloons.
' Chippo will now lift 75 kilos with one arm,' announced Wilf.
' Ergh... Umph... Oooghhh,' grunted Chip. He made everyone laguh as he pretended the cardbord weight was really heavy. Suddnely the naughty Flopperoo sank his jaws into one of Chippo's weights. 'BANG!' it went because of course, it was really a balloon. 'Oh Floppy!' said Chip, but the dog looked so surprised that even Chip couldn't help laughing.

For the next act, Wilma and Biff did gymnastics. They used the old mattress and Wilf told everyone that they were about to see some amazing tricks from 'The Jumping Beans,' (because that's what Wilma and Biff called themselves).
The mums and dads were very impressed by the gymnasts.
They clapped whenever the girls did a new trick.
Kipper watched glumly . 'Everyone's act was good except mine,' he thought.

After the Jumping Beans had finished, it was time for the interval. Biff's mum said they could have refreshments in the interval, so the children took round glasses of orange and eveyone had a drink. Wilma's dad had given them some money to buy crisps and biscuts and they took these round, too. 'What a good circus!' said Mum. ' I bet you don't get a free drink in a real circus.'

Wilf had changed out of his smart ringmaster's costume for the next act. Wilf was a stuntman and he was now going to do a stunt on his bicycle.
' Ladies and gentlemen ,' announced Biff. ' We now need complete silence while our daring stuntman, 'Wilf the Wheels,' attempts a breathtaking leap from a ramp over two volunteers.'
The volunteers were two teddy bears(because it wouldn't be the ramp and Wilf jumped over them on his bicycle.
' Easy peasy!' said Wilf the Wheels as everyone clapped and cheered.
Kipper was fed up. Nobody was taking any notice of him and he was jealous of Wilf's stunt.

Kipper landed with a thump on the mattress. Thank goodness it was there or he would have had a nasty fall.
Everyone gasped, and they were very relieved that Kipper hadn't hurt himself. In fact, Wilf said that if Kipper could do the same thing all over again he would announce it as being the star act of the whole circus.
' I wouldn't do that again. Not for anything. I think that maybe I'm a clown after all,' said Kipper. 'I'll have the stunts to Wilf, and stick to my juggling.'
Once everyone had got over the shock they said it was the best circus they had ever seen, and they watched the children do it all over again(Except Kipper's stunt of course)!
